RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
Oh, so you want more of my SE5A!!!!!!!!! I'll be on patrol daily.
The N-17 is Polish and I have no idea what side they were on. I have pictures of the checkered board pattern on planes form both sides. I have found a Polish se5a that is gray, green and brown camo with the polish insignias and almost every german plane in the war. I think I am going to make it my theme scheme.
And before anyone says anything, The Polish N-17 did not have a Lewis gun on the top wing.

Note the position of my Fokker, and picture your SE5a where this hapless Nieuport is.

Think we'll ever have pyrotechnics like this at Hoosier Dawn Patrol or Ohio Dawn Patrol?
Just imagine how cool it would be to fly around with all those explosions going off on the ground!

Just got the go ahead from the better half. Just to be sure, you aren't doing 2.4 only at the ODP are you? I'm one of the six people left in the US still on 72mhz it seems. Ah well, plenty of low price stuf out there. I'll be sending off my $$ in the mail tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

You're not alone. I still have some on 72. I'm gradually converting over. It's so nice not to have to look for the frequency pin!
P.S. I will sell 72 mHz receivers real cheap![sm=lol.gif]

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
At a club flyin last year I was lucky enough to run the radio impound for a few hours. I gotta tell ya, it was pretty boring sitting and watching my radio sit on the shelf all by itself. I was the only one. The more of you guys that convert over to 2.4, the less I worry about freq. problems. Pretty soon, I won't have to use a freq. pin either....Just kidding...

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
I still have a LOT of 72 stuff left. The ww1 birds I take to events are on 2.4, so i don't have to mess with impound, but I still have quite a few on 72, that will remain on 72.

Hello Martin,
Looking forward to seeing you, 72 is fine, we'll get the freq. board out just for you... Actually, quite a few of our club members still fly 72 so no problem.

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
Another question from a first-timer attending ODP.
How smooth is the grass runway and are there any gopher holes?
I'veflown the Dawn Patrols at both Muncie and Dayton. The Muncie site is really good, a couple dips here and there butyou can't complain about the length of the runway. Grass is always short too. Come to think of it, I remember (or my first Eindecker does) that the ground is also very, very hard, especially back in '08.
At Dayton, The flying site is "temporary" so it is not as well manicured turf-wise There is a gopher hole off to the right and a shallow ditch to the far left that act like airplane magnets, at least to me.I got pretty good at hopping the ditch last year in Dayton. Just have tocarry enough speed to make the hop.
I sometimes bounce 'em in, getting one or two or three landingswith each take-off.
It's when the number of take-offs exceedthe number of landings thatthe real work begins.....

Jeff,
My buddy and I drove up from Georgia for last years event and we were well recieved. The field has two grass strips which were finished mowed the day before the event. We got there early that's how I know. The people are great too. Pack up your planes and leave your worries at home.
I'm just mad that my family vacation is interferring with this years event or I'd be up there with you all. The wife has already been TOLD that next year Ohio Dawn patrol first... family vacation after.

Hey John,
Thanks for the kind words.. We'll miss ya this year. I'm sure we'll see ya at least at Southern Dawn Patrol. Jeff, you will not be disappointed the grass runways are in excellent shape with no gopher holes or drainage ditches..

Jeff,
The runways are one of our better assets. They are composed of a very short growing grass that is kept to a nice trimmed surface. I think we will also get the roller out before the event just for extra measure.
Here is a slide show of the 2009 event. There is some good shots of the runway.

Yeah, it was smooth last year at ODP, I recall doing a lot of touch & goes (on purpose); it was so nice. Muncie is great too because the grass is so short (probably the shortest), plus the smooth surface. Hopefully gophers won't visit either field this year.
Of the 3, Dayton has the roughest surface, I'd agree (but certainly flyable).

The wife and all three kids are throwing my sister in law a baby shower that weekend. I have free reign that weekend. What does that comic Sean Morey?? say.. I'm the king of my house...when she's not around.
