Some photos of the new right wing panel framed up.

With this design I did not use any balsa cap strips. Instead I cut thin strips of the airfoil shape from the ply and glued
them to the sides of the ribs to give me 1/4" of material for the covering to adhere to.
These strips are 1/8" wide and about 3/16" tall.

I found this to be much easier than bending 1/8"x1/4" balsa to follow the curve, and it is one less material needed in the kit.

Larry,
That is 2 great changes on the wings...........leading edge dowel and no rib caps!
We are ready to go for this weekend. I will use a digital camera (on the ground) to make sure I can post some of the flight videos.

The new wing looks really good!

Art ....hope you are feeling better.........DRINK a Mountain Dew 24 ounce! And get back to it!
You are almost there ......(right Geez!?...chime in anytime with false illusions of grandeurs! LOL!)

I especially was interested in the bacon toothpaste. When you brush your teeth after breakfast you don't lose that good flavor!:D

BTW, Are all these Eindeckers going to be at the Ohio Dawn Patrol? There should be an Eindecker gaggle![8D]

Doc - send money (I need glue) :D by the time your donation arrives I will be recovered enough to start gluing again.

And now I have come to realize [:-] that not enough bacon in my diet has been the slow down - thanks Jim for letting me know that:eek:

I feel motivated enough to go out to the shop and sand something[>:] or cut something[X(] oh my, I'm tired just thinking about it:eek:[&o]

Have you considered 2 layers of 1/16"? It just seems to me that cutting an piece of ply for each rib and then making sure they all line up is more work than double capping. Personally, I like being able to gang sand all the caps on a finished wing to ensure an even wing, and balsa's easy to sand. Just a different way I guess.

I do agree about the dowel leading edge though, (poplar from Hope Depot- nice and light). I'm building my second biplane with it, and I'm a believer.

Caps strips present a problem when you go to mate them to the dowel leading edge. You have to make a sharp, curved bevel on each one and it's difficult and time consuming to to get them neat ( I couldn't do it.) I used a dowel LE and 1/16" balsa cap strips on my DH-2 and had to go back and use filler in the gap at every cap strip at the leading edge.[:'(]
From now on I'm using hard balsa, square-section stock in a V-cut for leading edges on a WW1 plane with thin wings. Rounding off the corner on the front of the LE is no big problem.[8D]
