Getting a little closer........the second side now has the longerons and all the laminations glued to the ply fuselage sides.

I layed the first side over this one and it looks like a match (I won't say perfect - but very close).......I think I can lay in all the uprights and diagonals without having to build it over the first side. That certainly makes it a little easier.

I now have two fuse sides completed.

Next step is to ad the gussets for all the joints and then join the to sides together.

I 've rough sanded the fuselage sides and installed the gussetts which support the various stick wood joints.

One side is done and the other side is drying.......the Gorilla Glue tacks pretty quickly when clamped........10 minutes or so and the gussett isn't going anywhere!

The next step is the one which always frightens me! Joining the fuselage sides together - I've got to make sure EXACTLY where the firewall goes - that sets the initial alignment and controls controls how well the fuse does or does not join together. The jigs which are provided by the designer will help greatly when each cross piece is added......it is rather ingenious........kudos to Larry for providing them.

Bill H. wanted me to let you know that all is well with the Sooner squadron here in Oklahoma. We are all looking forward to

returning to Dayton in 2014. At present the club members are building 2 1/2 scale DR1's, and a 1/3 scale DVll.

Please add my name to the list for a kit when is ready. Have you set a target date for release yet?

Keep up the good work, I enjoy watching the progress.

Art , Barry Vogel, and myself visited Larry's shop this past weekend and seen first hand how things are done.
This guys shop is CLEAN and organized! I cannot wait to see one of these planes in the air!

What do you think about this landing gear?
I know its rough looking...all that can be cleaned up.
Each side pivots on the center rod and the uprights go into the fuse to a bungee system.

I could not for the life of me get that darn reduction drive to fit this fire wall!
so the DA85 will have to do!

Paul, looks like you are making good progress.......it will be interesting to see how the suspension works out in the field. I know you will give it a good work out when you get her flying! haahahhah!

I am a little bit envious - that small router looks to be a great time saver.

I have been working a bit on my build. I think what was slowing me down was deciding which servos to use.......I have a couple of sets of different sizes and well, to make a long story short.........I'll show you what I ended up with.

Also, there were some sub-assemblies which needed to be made before the fuse sides could be joined......

The first pictures show the designer's servo mount set up........, followed by my modification. It seems no matter how well thought out a servo mounting system is - SOMEONE (that would be me in this case) wants to change it all around. It is stricly a personal choice. Actually, as far as the geometry is concerned, Larry's design is 100% correct and gives equal up/down elevator throws.

The next pictures show the sub assemblies, one for the wing tube and the other two for the landing gear blocks.

All these assemblies as well as the other forward fusealge cross members will be glued to one side using squares to keep them properly aligned.
Then the two fuse side will be joined together.

Thanks for the comments about the shop guys. Glad you were able to come over.
When HPA was here he was going to get the third prototype kit that I had cut, he left with my developmental kit that was nearly complete.

This is giving me a chance to frame up a completely cut kit to check out any changes that have come up along the way.

My local club is having a large swap shop and static display competition on March 23 so that is my target date to get
my Eindecker completely framed and finished, ready to fly.

Ambitious I know, but if I don't set a goal I know it won't happen.
I am on track to have the fuselage completely framed by Friday and can start the wings this weekend.

I will be releasing the production kits as soon as we have the prototypes flying and proven.
Should be sometime in April and then onto the fly-ins.

Your gear will be a good alternate to the fixed gear that I have designed.

I received my pot today and 1/4 inch thick wall thickness ...WOW!

I do not think it looks bad at all........the pictures dont look as good as it does in person....

I was cuttin on that pot for a Hour! LOL!!

I assume your using a da twin behind the ziroli dummy engine? I coming up with the same setup for busa 1/3 pup but am concerned the dummy engine will restrict engine cooling. I do have holes drilled thru bulkhead for air to move in and out. I don't want to run a hot da.</p>

There is not enough room for a twin and dummy engine AND a cowl that is only 6" deep.[&o]

I am using a DA 85 sitting at the 12 o'clock position .....you can see it in one of the pics that was posted

I will post my cooling cut out later...basicly I traced the cylinder and removed all the material.......leaving no doubt of having a cool DA...:)

I just received my rubdowns for the Fokker E.III plates from [link=http://www.flightlinegraphics.com/]Flightline Graphics[/link]. They look very very good when applied to a brass sheet. As you might know I am doing a 1/4 scale (build on RCSB) so the 1/3rd scale plates are as a extra ;)

If you don't bother about the number on the plates then they are yours. If interested send me a email or Pb.

Progress is being made.......slow but sure......I think in a previous life I must have been a tortoise.

I have the wing tube frame and the landing gear block holders glued to one fuselage side. I used 5 minute epoxy for this task. The designer used wood glue on this part of his fuse build - both seem to work well, so I guess it's builder's choice here.

I have test fitted the other fuse side onto the first with all the other cross members for the forward fuse in place (nothing glued at this time). Things seem to be lining up pretty well so far.

I also pulled the tail together to see how that lined up - I might be a 32nd of an inch off as it sits......wow, just like magic (or a good design). Now if I can apply glue and put everything back in the same place..........

You might notice the all-thread clamps with angles or washers - my Dad taught me this trick many years ago. Pretty versatile.

Yes, they are 1/4". But the all-thread could be any size from 2-56 for small delicate assemblies up to as big as you want - but for most third scale projects that I have encountered quarter inch is sufficient. Different sizes of aluminum angle and fender washers seem to work for most of my needs.

More progress this afternoon - I now have the forward fuselage sides joined together. I used 30 minute epoxy for this task ..... and I'm glad I did,

too. It took me 25 minutes to get the epoxy spread all around, the fuse sides put together (this was done while on it's side), then turned upside

down (because the fuse top is flat from the firewall to the rear of the cockpit) then put the various pieces back into place (because some fell out

when I layed it upside down), then the ply board put on top with a steel weight (this helped square the fuselage sides to the table), then put in the

wing tube and an alignment piece in the rear fuse (this allowed me to insure the fuse was square and the wing tube was level to the stab and then

clean up all the dripping epoxy with alcohol and then finally remove the wing tube before the epoxy set up.

This sounds like a big production but it's not really difficult to do........it takes time and the epoxy allows only so much time. I made a couple of dry

runs with the procedure so I wouldn't make a mess of things. If I thought I needed more time, there is always Hobby Poxy II with a 45 minute

working time.
