After this is ready to handle (approximately 2 hrs) I will reposition everything and join the tail with the proper lateral spacing and then cut in all the cross pieces followed by the diagonals.

Now its time to join the Super Bowl game already in progress.........

Hey Art,
Maybe I should of asked you sooner......
How long did it take you to do that last step?
And are you keeping track of the total time you have so far in this build?

Paul

About an hour to set it up (test fit and make a dry run or two) and about and hour to actually do it. I spent a couple of days looking at different ways to accomplish the task........

No, I'm not keeping track of my build time.

At this point (like Larry did when he reached it) I just had to hang the wings and put the firewall and stab/rudder in place.....and take a look at it:)

In case anyone hadn't figured it out yet:eek:, this is a large model airplane![X(] yah, I like it :D

Art, I think I like the way he designed the fin & rudder. I have the SR Batteries Eindecker, it flys and looks great but your design is much simpler. You are doing a great job, I alway learn something when I read someones construction threads. If I don't see you in Eureka Springs this year, Dallas & I will see you guys at Dayton.

Hi Rich......yes it is a good fin/rudder design. The whole design is an interesting concept and I am looking forward to the maiden and then subsequent test flights.

The Mint Julep Scale Classic has been moved from Rough River, Ky in May to southern Indiana on the same weekend as Hammer's Warbird's Over Arkansas in June. So it looks like Dayton in 2014 is the next time to get together - tell Dallas "hey" for me and Rhonda.

Starting the wing layout.......

The ribs are Baltic birch ply and the sticks on the fuse are aspen. Some of the fill on the fuselage is balsa as is the wing leading edge. Its an interesting mix of wood and should be quite strong.

I found this Reproduction Picture of an EIII in Florida.

Can you and the designer, discrib what the differences are from the prototype to the reproduction?

That's pretty neat, prolly about 7/8 scale maybe only 3/4 and resembles an EIII. The nose is too long has a windscreen, ailerons, modern airfoil etc. But a neat concept.

I think this will give "Windows" a whole new meaning!

Larry has designed a series of building jigs to keep the rear fuse aligned when cutting in the cross pieces.

The jigs are slid over the fuse and located as marked on the plans and pinned in place - it makes fitting the cross pieces more precise and makes gluing them in very easy.......and all the while keeping the fuse straight and without twists. :) yah, I liked that, too!

Kudos to Larry [8D]

I think another look at the ingenious series of fuselage jigs that Larry designed for this kit is in order. I have located them on the plans in their respective locations. The windows, if you will, represent the cross section of the fuselage at each location - sheer genious!

The fuselage is now straight and the stab is almost perfectly aligned with the wing tube. A difficult task made easy. I have been envolved in this hobby since 1975 and this is the most foolproof system of joining the tail together and cutting in cross pieces that I have experienced.

Oh, just in case you haven't been paying attention - this is a 1/3 scale model - yah, I'm liking this a lot!

Hey Art - That is one good looking kit.  Will you be bringing it to the Mid-Atlantic Dawn Patrol this year?

Yep, that's the plan John......it is a pretty nice kit. Like Paul said - maybe there will be 4 of them, if everyone makes it to the coast.

And just for you Paul, I might wear my 'Nats Official' hat:D

what can I say about the extra picutre - oops [8D]

Since Paul came and got the Eindecker that I had framed up I have been busy with this new one.
Not doing to badly working in the evenings and one weekend so far.

Yes the Mid-Atlantic Dawn Patrol is on my list of events for this year.

Making some small changes as I go to make it even easier to frame up.

This is a well designed kit, what a great idea! Building the fuselage straight is the hardest part of the whole build. This is something you would think of if they were building an ARF kit to mass produce. The pictures of the airplane and you shows how big the model will be when finished. Keep up the good work and post pictures.

Take Care
Rich

Hello ,

Very interested...
Keep up the nice work !
Greetings,

Bruno, here is a quote from the designer a couple of posts back.......a price is yet to be determined....Art

I will be releasing the production kits as soon as we have the prototypes flying and proven.
Should be sometime in April and then onto the fly-ins.

I have added the diagonals to the top and bottom of the fuse.

Also I am trying figure out the hatch - there seems to be some L's I don't know what to do with.......

Art. Could they be offcuts from ather pieces (waste?)
EDIT... I gotta tell you that the jig pieces for the rear of the fuselage are brilliant. I can see working that into a future build.

Art,

The "L" pieces go inside against the fuselage for the king post to rest against.

Art,

Did you do that little trick we talked about when adding the top cross piece where the angle starts
to tamper to the rear?

Your fuselage looks like it has less bow in the top longeron than mine did.

Larry
