Repair help needed
#1
I recently purchased a Richardson Tug Boat by Hobby Engine. Unfortunately, it has a defective receiver. Because this item is discontinued there is no official support for it. I can always return the item and have refund, so that’s not a problem. The problem is there is very few ready-to-run tugboats available and that’s why I would very much like to keep it. However, I have no capabilities what so ever of fixing it myself.
So, I’m now wondering
1) Is it possible to get Richardson into running order?
2) Would somebody be willing to do the repair for me? Naturally, I would pay the person performing the work the appropriate compensation.
I tried to attach a jpg picture of the Richardson, but I was not allowed to use urls (sic).

If it's just a bad receiver, it shouldn't be too hard to replace the electronics. The bigger question is did the manufacturer use standard parts or an integrated receiver and speed controller?
I was just doing a bit of research online and found your boat is made by Pro Boat, a subsidiary of Horizon Hobby. This makes things easy. Since they have a customer service department, give them a call and see what they can do to help you out. Their number is 1-800-338-4639

Thank you much. As far as I understand the boat has a separate speed controller. I think it also has circuit board (?) for different functions (lights, sound). I’am a total layman in these matters, but I suppose a speed controller should be quite easily replaced? The circuit board, on the other hand may be a different story. The problem is I have no knowledge to pinpoint the defective component(s). The boat was inspected by a salespearson in a RC-shop and his conclusion was a defective receiver.

And that may be the case. If it is, a receiver is an easy swap. I would contact Horizon Hobby and see what they have to say. If they agree, they might just send you a receiver which, if the guy at the hobby shop knows what he's doing, he should be able to swap it out and verify it was the issue. If Horizon feels they need to verify the diagnosis, they may ask you to send it in and then they could fix it. Either way, since it was purchased recently, it should still within the warranty period. If that is the case, they may do whatever repairs are needed and ship it back for free. You won't know unless you ask.
