Default Conversion of Tamiya/mpc PTs?

Hello all.

Finally got my dream home with a lake in the back yard, even better it's a secluded city owned lake, so they take care of it and I don't have to worry about someone drowning on my property.

Any whoo, did a search for PT, vosper, and Tamiya, and didn't get any hits on the success of converting the old Tamiya Japanese PT-15 or Vosper PERKASA. I realize they'd be extreme fair weather running only. I'm mostly curious if the stock running gear can push them along reasonably?

TIA
Tom

I didn't realize they were available as R/C, hence your usage of the term stock running gear.

In any event, I've seen them both converted to R/C using BEC to keep the weight low, micro servos and similarly small but high-torque running motors. If you position the weight slightly aft which allows the bow to ride over waves instead of plowing through them, they can handle amazingly choppy water. I'd recommend the PT-15 as it is bigger, wider, and has a smaller superstructure compared to the Vosper.

They plane out very well at speed.

Here is a link to three pages on a Tamiya Pt-15

Even with the bow buried this deep in the wave, the author has no fears of sinking.

Thanks guys

That last picture makes one want to consider renumbering from PT-15 to I-15

Hi guys,

I'm from Germany and found this thread by using Google. This summer I made a conversion of the old Tamiya "Perkasa" that I built in the early 90's as a static model for the showcase. That means I made the conversion when the model was already completed. The model is powerded by a SPEED 400 6V from Graupner in combination with 6-7 AAA-size cells with a capacity of 800mAh. Click the following link to see the result:
