Ballistic missile subs

RE: Ballistic missile subs
Your lucky day!
The Rapier rocket motors are the perfect long burn time motor. they are about 1/2" in dia. I ran the web sites and came up with it . It is used in Europe and powers 5 oz. hand tossed gliders. It will definately do a underwater launch out of a Ohio Class. Wax paper as a silo seal would hold out the water. IGNITION and pressure blows the waxpaper seal and up comes the missle.
Stability of the missile would require 3 Stabilizer rods on the missile. Liftoff would be very slow as it breaks the surface . Speed would then increase.
200' to 500' height max. GUESTIMATE !
I can post or PM what I have found.[sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Ballistic missile subs
I was just wondering if one of those rocket motors would continue burning underwater, or not... I know they are solid propellants, but i don't think they have oxygen in the mix.
Theres at least one way to find out! (Other than the internet.)

Thx for the motors. a main worry is stablity. i also happen to be into model rocketry and even with a mini motor you would need about a 12in rode which i don't what to see sticking out of my sub. and i still would like some videos

RE: Ballistic missile subs
I am considering creation of a missle sub kit to add to my growing catalog. I thought the typhoon would be best for it. What boomer do you guys think would be most popular?

Yo, hobbiedude and barnstormerboats. You'r on the right path liking the Typhoon-class sub.If you want to build one from scratch, go to The SubCommittie. It is a web site that is dedicated to RC submarines.

Tim,
A George Washington class. I built this one from scratch. 1/96 scale and now I'm making a small 1/144 vacuum form kit. But a large GW would be a good seller IMO. Say 1/72?
And vist my forum at www.subpirates where there's more bubble heads than just about any place else aside from SC. You'll get lots of input there.

[sm=tired.gif] There are plenty of links in the previous threads with typhoon plans and kits. Look for Subcaptns posts... he's been looking for a typhoon for a long time now.
No Estes motors will not work underwater. They have clay nossles that will absorb the water and deform or fall appart under the rocket thrust.
