Phil at RCTankWars is the only USdistributorthat I know of. I also think that he only carries the Abrams and knot the LEO which i believe he should as that is a great tank also. the guns on these tanks are toys, because these tanks are toys. A great deal of work goes into building these tanks into true RC quality tanks. Just go back and read the threads on all the modifications that need to be done too these Tanks. They ARE NOT FOR THE FIRST TIME BUYER, if you are expecting something even close too HL standards. Which they are not. Now, Phil is no longer doing custom builds of these tanks either, so if you do buy one you are on your own. But there are plenty of us here who are happy too help and do so freely. These tanks are fairly expensive considering the work needed but they are a very good solid basis for a good tank. It is a commitment to take on one of these, unless you just want it as a toy to play with. Which is perfectly fine, there is no shame in that. There really just is no great source for modern day armor that is not in the VERYexpensivecategoryother than these tanks.

Got the rear lights done and operational. Unfortunately though with the added weight of the tracks and the fact that I hadn't got round to installing a fan the rx18 is kaput! Luckily I have a spare which I will modify and install when I open up the turret to try and engineer the recoil and install the modelbau unit. Hope you like the lights!

Finished the wheels. I'm very happy with this mod. It makes them look more to scale as well as making the rubber tyres appear thicker. On to the turret next which I am dreading. I'm useless at electronics. Cheers

Great lookin M1's !! I got a few ?'s Are you using the stock radio gear in these? Did the tanks come with those unit #'s on the as I have never heard of that unit before. I am a former M1 mechanic and Iron soldier.

Which (units) are you talking about? If it is the gear boxes that you mean, NO, everything you are seeing on these tanks are custom builds. The stock power train and radio gear are very cheap toy grade stuff. They are in no way even close to hobby grade straight from the box. Actually they don't even come close too Heng Long quality as far as those aspects go. Thesetanks have great potential, but do REQUIRE a lot of custom work to get them to be good runners. Now for some one who just wants a really cool toy, they are fine OTB.

These are some pics of the work that has gone into my build, and I'm not nearly finished. I intend to use a full El-mod system, and i am going to re design the recoil and elevation systems on the main gun also. This is also before the paint was finished. it is just the first base coat. i have a full 3 color NATO scheme on it now.

When he said unit#'s I think he was refering to the unit markings on the tank, B-25 and 1 3-27.

Thanks Oracus, yes those markings were already on the tank so they may not make sense. I'm using the stock Heng Long radio gear out of a pershing which has been great so far but I would like more speed eventually. That is the only drawback of using Heng Long on a modern tank.

Elmod and a descent set of motors should get you right up to speed with that monster.

It's an HL Pershing. The Snow Leopard is just what HL calls it so Tamiya does not sue them. LOL

I sometimes feel bad that I had to butcher my Pershing to make the Abrams but at least it went to a good cause. Only thing is, just the electronics, gearboxes and some of the return rollers remain in the abrams but the Pershing is way past the point of saving now as originally I used its wheels on the Abrams but they became too wobbly. I still have around 3 lengths of track going spare!

Spot on yellowshaker, I reckon elmod with 8.4 or 9.6v batteries with 480 size long can motors should do the trick and if its too fast I could even install 3:1's and have more torque as well. Thats a long way off at the moment though.

Hi all, Just purchased a HE M1A1 first mod changed headlights to white leds
HL Snow Leopard will be donor tank installing RX-18/Gearbox I need to know if anyone sells a mounting plate for the gearbox that drops right in the HE M1A1? Also has anyone tried using the HL Snow Leo road wheels on the M1A1 I plan on adding the Tamiya Leopard 2A6 tracks, sprockets if not I noticed Panther G has some kind of spacers on his road wheels.
