Default RE: Lest we Forget

A bit late in my tribute. Whatever we call it in our respective Countries, I know this is what I think about on that day.

I just so happened to be driving through Durnbach on Veteran's Day weekend a few years back, and came across this cemetery. And this is a small one.

Was a rainy day, let it suffice to say that to be cold and wet for a few minutes, is nothing compared to what these men gave.

There may be those who can remain emotionless in places like this, not I. Perhaps one must be in the situation to feel the pain of reading just-placed letters from now-grown daughters and sons, writing to tell the father they never knew about their life? It only takes thinking of this place, those men, and those letters, to make it real. It is heartening to know that people still care, still maintain these graves so far from home, still place letters from loved ones, and pay the respect deserved at least one day of every year.

Strange that on that weekend, I happened upon this place in an out of the way location I had never intended on visiting. To paraphrase the German gentleman who I happened upon in this Allied resting place, "there are far too many great men buried in these cemeteries".

I hope our German brethren have a similar day. They have had far longer to bury their dead. This wall lists people killed back into 1800.

If anyone wishes to see these with better resolution, let me know via PM, I can figure out how to get them to you. I've got more as well, with names (like below), and probably some of the(?) cemetery in Luxembourg. Unsurprisingly, weather was atrocious in both locations, and the photos didn't turn out great with my little camera.

Ah, thus the all caps, my apologies. Just take your time typing. I make about 10x more mistakes typing than writing and being far sighted, I too see a blurry keyboard. God bless our veterans.
