Lest we Forget

This is just a thread to say thanks to those that served in the "great conflict". They are leaving us at an accelerated rate, and it is up to us to remember the sacrifices made by normal people thrown into the fight. Because of them we have the freedom to write and express opinions. This truly is a passing of the torch. We owe it to the fallen to never forget, and always work diligently to keep communicating and talking to prevent having to put people in harms way.
I special thanks to those that are serving in current conflicts. Your service is just and the country is stronger because of you.
We have our issues, but all in we have a lot worth saving and protecting, and for that I am very grateful that young able bodied men and women answer the call of duty to serve an protect.
Thank you.

I drive a nice car, on nice roads to an interesting job that pays well. My sons' greatest worries are getting into university and making the volleyball team. My drinking water is clean and safe, there's a first class hospital 5km from me in a town of 5000 people, and I see Police, Fire/Ambulance/Paramedic crews ready to help on a daily basis. I live in a great place.
I always remember.
Mike.

I often think of my Dad, who left us too soon, in 1986, around this time, i especially remember his days in WWII
He didn't dwell on his service in later years.
Like many others, left home at an early age, an age when most of my generation were just leaving college, or just into their first "rëal" job. He looked so young in pictures of him taken in those day, young enough, I wouldn't let a "kid" that age borrow my car, today.
He joined the RCNR, enlisting in Nov. 1943.
He served on the North Atlantic on the Bangor Minsweeper J166, HMCS Qunite, like the Corvettes, not a big ship for those waters and certainly severely lacking in any comforts (as my visit to the preserved HMSC Sackville in Halifax in the 1980's showed me).
He was honourably discharged in Jan. 1946.
While he did not have some of the more famous, horrific experiences we readf about,, the had 3 years of discomfort and fear, intersperesed with some camraderie and learning.
Thanks, Dad.

To all who served and fought for our freedom and liberties, thank you. Let us never forget and let us never allow what they have done for us to go by the wayside. If we wish to remain free we must continue to fight as they did before us. God Bless each and every one of those brave soldiers!</p>

Unfortunately after 13 years of Labour and there liberal policy’s sights like this are not un common these racist *******s are allowed to mount protests un-opposed whenever they like they are never dispersed and no matter what banners they show are never arrested and charged they even taunt returning British soldiers returning from Afghanistan, injured troops are treated in a specialist hospital in Birmingham alongside civilians Birmingham is a densely Muslim populated area and the injured sliders and there family’s often are verbally abused and nothing is done or said, on the other hand if the BNP mount any form of protest they are stamped on immediately they are not allowed any banners or signs and very often face the full force of the law

Sadly, in America today, an extremist "Christian" sect is allowed by Constitution to literally "Dance on the Graves" of newly-fallen US Soldiers, singing hymns and celebrating the fact that "this Country is being punished for all of her sins".
An old Firefighter once told me: "When you're trying to keep an Apartment Block from going up in flames, it's not your place to ask if it's going to be a future home for Working People, or for Drug Dealers. You don't pick and choose who you're saving the whole thing for".
Thank you to all who have kept, and are keeping, the world that we know from "Burning Down"!

It's a shame that the extremists are allowed to speak for the whole group. Perhapse if the moderates were more vocal andlesstolerant of these hateful thugs then the popular image of Muslims would be different. As it stands Islam is it's own worstpublicrelations problem.

HI MY NAME IS CHUCK AND I THOUGHT I TELL YOU A STORY OF A FRIEND OF MINE. HE WAS IN THE ARMY AND THE GROUP OF GOOD MEN WERE TOLD TO HOLD AND SECURE A PEACE OF DIRT FROM THE EMENEY. THEY WERE TAKEN HEAVY FIRE ALL AROUND AND MEN WERE DROPING LEFT AND RIGHT. THEN CAME THE ORDER TO FALL BACK. UNDER FIRE HE CARRIED MEN HE WOULD PICK THEM UP THROW THEM OVER HIS SHOULDER AND HEAD FOR THE L.Z. HE LOADED THE CHOPPER UP AND AS THE CHOPPER LIFTED OFF HE HEADED BACK IN TO THE FIRE FIGHT TO PICK UP MORE WOUNDED AND CARRIED THEM BACK FOR THE NEXT CHOPPER TO LAND AND PICK UP THE WOUNDED. AGIAN UNDER HEAVY FIRE HE RAN BACK IN TO THE FIRE FIGHT TO HELP HIS FRENDS. THERE WERE ONLY 5 LEFT. THEY COULD HERE THE CHOPPER COMING SO MY FRIEND GRAB UP THE ANOTHER WOUNDED AND RAN TO THE L.Z. THE CHOPPER WAS JUST LANDING AS HE LOADED THE WOUNDED MAN INTO THE HE TURN AND SAW HIS CAPT. HOW WAS THE ASSULT COMMANDER FALL TO THE GROUND MY BUDDY JUMP OUT OF THE CHOPPER AND RAN TO HIS AID PICK HIM UP THROUGH HIM OVER HIS SHOULD AND HEADED BACK TO THE CHOPPER. THEN IT HAPPEN . HE TOOK A ROUND IN THE BACK AND AS HE LIFTED HIS CAPT. INTO THE CHOPPER HE TOOK ANOTHER ROUND THROUGH HIS KNEE. HE WAS THE LAST MAN LIFTED OFF AND THAT PEICE OF DIRT WAS CALL HAMBERGER HILL HIS NAME IS TOM CORRUTHERS. HE IS MY CO-WORKER AND I AM PROUD TO HAVE HIM AS MY FRIEND AND FISHING BUDDY.

1.) An inspiring story to be sure
2.) YOU DON'TNEED To YELL!
3.) You do need to spell, it enhances the credibilty of the story, poor spelling and grammar detract greatly from the story.
