Weird problem with RX18 (buzzing motors, no super-spin)
Hello guys,
I did somegoogling about a problem Ihave with a HL tank, and the most consistent results came from this forum, soI figured it's the best place to ask for a bit of help.
I recently purchased for my kid's Christmas presenta Heng Long Tiger. Tested it to makesure everything is OK andwas amazed how damn cool the thing is. After a bit of reflection, decided to buy another, a Panzer III. It just arrived, and it seems quite the opposite to the Tiger in terms of QC: it acts erratically when it comes to movement, the most obvious thing being that it would perform the super-spin movement maybe once in 7 attempts. And when it does it, it quits unexpectedly the movement.
I turned the sound to zero and it is obvious that, right after startup, the first control stick movementdetermnies the engines to produce a high pitched sound. It does it to both engines.
All other functions seem fine, except for the smoke generator (I think it's flooded, not burned). The tank has the latest Rx18 in it. Is the RX busted or it's anything else I should check?

I was thinking antenna wire to RX might be the issue. Check the obvious stuff first: new batteries in transmitter, 7.2V bat all charged up. Then check the tank's antenna connection including solder points, while you are in there also check for obvious loose wiring. Last of all if the problem persists switch crystals with the Tiger, then check the wiring in the transmitter for obvious loose connections. Best of British luck to you and welcome to our addiction!

At least some of the Pz III Ausf L's do have the RX-18. I have one I purchased at least 6 mos. ago that has the RX-18

Thank you guys.
Board is definitelly RX18. The tank displays the same problems when using the Tx from the Tiger, with the Tiger crystals, so we can rule out Tx, batteries and crystals.
The whistle in the engines (present at idle too, after receiving some initial input from the Tx) makes me suspect the small Rx board. Could that be the culprit? It's like when browsing for stations with the radio and suddenly you hear a loud, high pitched whistle. Only it's in the motors lol.

They all whistle to some degree, I know my Tiger I does. Worst case scenario is you get a new RX18 board and plug it in. It's a cheap quick fix which I've done myself in minutes.

Yup, I know, thing is I'd have to order it and it takes a while.
Any other ideas? Have anyone encountered similar simptoms?

Try moving the antenna wire inside the tank away from the motors. This can cause RF interference that can make some pretty weird noises.

Check your trims on the transmitter. Sometimes they are not in neutral and this will enhance the whinning of the ESC. Make sure the batteries are good. Tired battereis can be the cause of a lot of issues.

I agree with YHR.....check your trims(with everything on and tank just sitting there)slowly play with your trim adjusters..more times then no thats your problem..

As YHR says, check the trims, especially the one beside the right stick (not so much the one below) . It will cause whining and if way out of whack may cause erratic operation. Also, are you getting this odd behaviour indoors when you're right beside the tank? Try extending the antenna fully and move away from the tank a bit. My PZIII has at times acted strangely indoors when the batteries get a bit low.
Otherwise, are all of the other functions OK and acting predictably and reliably (other than the smoker)?
Mike.

All the above is right on. Also check that the capacitors on the motors are still in contact.

If you can isolate what causes the super spin to be deactivated, there are probably a few of us that would like to replicate the "removal" of that "feature" lol.

Hehe, I know. The problem is it works randomly, it's not just deactivated.
I played a lot with the trims, as a matter of fact it's the first thing I did. No luck. Rf interference is what comes to mind when hearing that sound.
