Why, it's a big grey thing with tracks, and a star, that's what.

I'm thinking it may be a mobile observation platform for either munitions or extreme weather. Maybe with the signal corps??? Bob

Its the BARV, Ice ceam truck I tells ya.
It brings Ice Cream to drowned vehicles during the Normandy Invasion. The Royal Engineers drove them,(1943) Beach Armoured Recovery Vehicle..and ice cream..
52 of them had been used during the D Day landing and used untill 1960. Also known as the SEALIONS......and ice cream truck..
It could drive in 9 feet of water and keep the ice cream dry...

That sounds believable. I've never seen anything like that. What does BARV stand for?

Certainly looks like it could be one of those "Hobarts Funnies" Least I think thats what the guys name was......I think He was a mad British Colonel that thought up some of the weird things that came ashore on DDay, Like the flail Tank, DD and the Tank that carried the huge bobbin, and payed out a surface of something?? that other tanks could drive on helping them to not get stuck in the sand.

Major Hobart, commanded the company he didn’t invent the funnies these were invented by various other people.

The Sherman as has been said is a beach recovery tank used to push ships and landing craft back into the sea and yes it’s another British conversion
