Feasability of mod to Heng Long 8 pin turret connector
Fellow tankers,
In the process of numerous trials installing components and running wires into the turret of my Pz III which I'm in the process of upgrading to an Asiatam recoil and Heng Long infrared battle system, I've fatigued/broken the wires soldered to the 8 pin turret connector (see attached photo with intact solder joints). For the particular routing and 8 pin connector mounting location I've been working to on my project, in theory it would be better to solder the wires in perpendicular to the small PCB, rather than parallel to the surface. Is it feasible to drill some small holes into the PCB contact patches, slide the tinned wire leads into the hole, and solder the connection? My only real concern with this approach is whether I can possibly damage the PCB. Any help appreciated.

Should work fine, and I don't see an issue with it. However the effectivenss of this approach might not be much different then just soldering them to the pad. Hot glue works well to bind the bond and move the flex away for the board to be taken up by the sheathed wire.

Thanks for the input YHR. I like the idea of the hot glue reinforcement, maybe I'll repair the broken wires and give that a try.
