Yep. They made them as wide as 39 " thats a wide grouser. cant see that they would last long like that or would be used in very rare cases but they did make them that wide.

Those saw very limited use, they were not durable. After the war the E9 designation proved more reliable than those, spacing the sprockets, idlers and bogies away from the hull and using the grousers on both sides of the track.
I think they had a different name for those, something to do with cleats I think. There is a lot of information on them in Hunnicutt's Sherman.

Maybe back then they were thinking about going into Russia before Russia decided to turn their backs in the Allies... Just saying :-)

Russia was only ever going to go its own way the same as today Russia sings to its own song, though there was an Allied nut who wanted to carry on the battle all the way to Moscow luckily others didn’t agree especially as Hitler had just failed and the Russian army was vastly larger and stronger than in 1941.

Those tracks were tried in 1944, but life expectancy was only 1000 miles. They had tremendous vibration at lower speeds and had to use special fenders for the dirt & mud thrown up on the tank. (Hunnicutt). They do resemble the tracks on my former M-29 weasel. They were 20 inches wide and ran fantastic in mud, swamp and wet fields, but not a pleasant ride on city steets or any hardstand.

Patton was an Allied nut? I for one agree with Patton. He failed to realize that Roosevelt was in bed with the Communists and had already allowed Stalin to enlave Eastern Europe at Yalta.
