1:16 scale buildings?
I am looking for a good place to start. I want to build some scale building in 1:16 scale but I think I need to know some real work dimesions of actual buildings or pictures. I want to focus on WWII style buildings. I downloaded Google SketchUp but have not spent much time with it. Any information would be great.
Thanks

RE: 1:16 scale buildings?
56-jeephead: FRAG has built many 1/16th scale buildings. Most are made of 1/2" plywood, overwhich we either add regular paint, textured stucco paint or glue on plastic sidings. Plastic sidings come in the shape of brick, stone, various wood patterns etc. They also come as shingles, slate, etc for roofing material. These are typically found at hobby shops or doll house shops. We chose Normandy as our battle setting and constructed the buildings accordinly. Other clubs have used fibre board as the main material, which may be OK for inside, but a heavier structure is needed for outdoors, thus we chose wood. I have a set of specs and instructions that will help you and will pass them along if you email me at [email protected]. Attached are a few pictures to illustrate what FRAG does. Good luck. PP

Wow! Amazing... you should do a build thread on doing the buildings. Some of the best I've seen!
Hey Jeephead... check out this thread also. Nice job done with buildings using scale printed images: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_87..._1/key_/tm.htm

I am busy preparing 'Battle of the Bulge' themed plans for both the Detroit and UK RCTankRegiment 1/16 scale clubs - they can be found here:

While my prototypes are certainly nowhere near as good as FRAG's buildings, I hope that they are at least a start [8D] (I'd love to see what FRAG could do with them - you guys have set a very high standard indeed! ).
I have tried hard to identify historical buildings from the various "Then and Now" threads on the WW2 history forums, and scale them using Google Earth. I haven't included the 'Now' pictures in the pdf files out of respect for the original photographers' copyrights, but I can send you the links if need be.

Panzerpaul did a post earlier in the year on their battleday with pics, every time I see these I go bonkers. One of the best posts on here I have seen.

Captain Action: The train station is actually the Dock Master building shown in the movie Longest Day, in the city of Ouistreham. It sets along the canal that the Canadian Commandos run by to reach the casino where the Germans have a strong point. The track is indeed G scale, but since that picture was taken, we have relaid all the track to proper width of 5.5" The blown up Tiger on the end is an HL model that was gutted and reconfigured with battle damage.
