Default Recoil issue

Hi everyone, I recently added a Modelbau Arm track recoil blocking module with flash to my rx18 but when I push the left stick up (for recoil) and press the k button (for flash and sound) at the same time the gun recoils twice. I can't figure out what is causing it, can anyone help? Would it be possible to trigger the recoil off the LED flash wires? Thanks

No on the LED flash wires. It will draw too much current and you will smoke something.

Your double recoil is probably becuase your contact switch needs to be set up better. Add a resistor into the ciruit to slow down the speed of the recoil. This will help

Thanks for the quick reply YHR, I'll have a look at the contact switch but it works fine when I don't push the k button at the same time. Its like the k button also seems to be activating the up stick function but when I push it on its own the recoil isn't triggered, very strange! Isn't it on a different circuit?

The K button should be on a separate circuit. The recoil on the gun is instigated by the negative feed that the up stick produces. I modify the tranmitter to move the k button to the left stick. That way upward stick movement gets everything happening at once. So in effect what happens in my recoils is exacly what is happening in yours. I have had double recoils or recoils that won't stop, but it has always been caused by the contact swtich.

Just for fun have someone lightly grip the bbl to slow down the return and see if that fixes the occurance. If it does, then I suggest a resistor in the main power supply to the gun to slow it down.

Ok I'll definately give that a try. I'm planning on doing the transmitter mod too like yours but wanted to sort this problem out first. If I have no joy would I be able to trigger the recoil off of the ARM module by connecting to one of the motor wires? That way I wouldn't have to mod the transmitter and all will be off the k button. The disabled track recoil would then trigger the cannon recoil as I think the signal still goes into the ARM module. Correct me if I am wrong. Cheers

I have no experience wiht the ARM module. I use David' DBC which disables the recoil jerk.

I should correct myself there, obviously if it was triggered off the motor wires then the gun would recoil everytime I went forwards or backwards as well! The recoil itself is powered by a micro servo so would that still be bad to power it off the negative LED wire?

Yes. THe motor draws a lot current at start up, and thee transiters for powering the LEDs could not take the load for long.

ok i've now done the transmitter mod like yours yhr using your pictures for help. It works great but still getting the double recoil as expected so i'm going to install a 20 ohm resistor, could you explain where in the circuit it should go? Many thanks for your help

You are trying to slow down the recoil action. So it need to between the motor and the main power supply. I use big sand resistors. THey can take the current.

Right, I'm pleased to report I've succeeded, Its been driving me crazy! The only resistor I could get to work is one I took out of a burned out rx18. The muppets at maplin kept giving me the wrong resistors and none of them worked. Finally I read an ould post where a diode had been used so I took one off an out board and heypresto no more double recoil and it now works like a charm. The diode goes in line with the left stick trigger wire and stops the servo sooner. The resistor goes on the common wire for the smoker jack. If anyone else is having problems with theis I'll try to help. Thanks YHR for your help.
