Default T-34/85

Hello fellow tank-o-holics! I recently acquired a T-34 that was sold on ebay. Brand new in the box! Of course I had to tear it apart right away. I am planning to install Tamiya Pershing TU's in it and I am thinking about trying to also use the pershing'd outdrives in this tank. Still in the planning stages right now. So far I have added welds and texture to the turret and hull and made the turret hatch functional I also made a brake light and housing for it.... I then applied a coat of pait to it. So far so good. But, I'll let you guys be the judge.

You'll need the gearbox upgrade if you want metal tracks, even in stock condition those gears start sounding distressed after a short period of battling [&:]
(But I will take the plastic tracks - and gears too if you replace them before they fail! - off your hands if you want to go that route )

FV432 did an Asiatam upgrade a while back, take a look at what he did.

No problem Greg.
ExPattanker, I am hooping that my idea works out. Between Daryl's parts and tamiya, this should be a strong runner in the end. If you need the gearboxes and tracks, I should have no use for them.

If both of us make it to Danville in April, I look forward to swapping ideas - I do like the T34's [8D]

I do plan to make that trip... I am unsure of how I am going to get there right now. I may try to hitch a ride or I'll be forced to drive down myself...
If it's done, I will be taking the T-34 there with me...and possibly the other project, if I get it finished in time...
mart, what do you have done to your T-34?

Hmm T34 mods...

I'm working on mashing a Trumpeter T34/76 M1943 turret onto the WSN chassis - might be a total POS by the time I'm done tho [&:] But if it works I will bring it to Danville for novelty value
The rest will probably stay home - T34/76 M1942 is in winter cammo and will stick out like a sore thumb, and Su 85 and 122 are works in progress - I hate making the metal work for moving the gun [:@]!!

I'm hoping to bring the T34/76 M1943, Su-152 and Su-76i (the latter just for light tank comedy value - nothing makes a KT driver more angry than 3 hits in 9 secs, lol! )
The rest will compose a couple of Sherman's, and my M41 (also comedy light tank value).
Maybe a couple of kraut clunkers for balance...

and maybe a few surprises...

I got a few stencils and decided to have a go at the turret slogan and number, so here is the result.
The slogan translates "For Stalin"

It looks really nice. I always appreciate when someone does a decent rendition of this world changing tank. IMHO it was so innovative it really needs a better representation in the RC world.
The casting work looks really good as well. I put bearings in mine as well as the stock versions eat themselves up pretty quickly. I also had good luck filling the suspension arms with milliput to sure them up. Gearbox swap is a must but you already mentioned that.

Once again, nice job.

Perry, if you wouldn't mind, I would like to have any info on the bearing install that you might provide. I already filled the arms with jb weld to make them solid. Worked out nice. Problems to resolve include adding the front tensioner system, figuring out the fix for the road wheels binding on the swing arms, fitting the Pershing Tu's and final drive set-up into this beast...after that it should be easy LOL.
I searched and did not find many build threads of the T-34. It's a shame really because I found this to ebe a really nice tank to work with. I am trying to make it a good replica.

I'm out working in the field right now and away from my usual computer with all my pic's. I'll try to ftp into it and pull some down and post but my intuition tells me you'll probably be done by the time I get home next week

LOL, so are you implying that I work too quickly?
I doubt this will be done anytime soon. I still have to order a set of TU's from Tamiya, along with final drive units and then a few parts from Daryl...sigh I just realized I need second job...you need any help in the field? LOL

PS I will be looking forward to the pics.

Hmmm heights you say? Well, I always wanted to try flying... LOL
Thanks Perry, I appreciate any input on the T34. It seems the builds are limited on forums.
