heres my first scratch built structure. i decided on the bamboo looking grass hut based on what i have heard about where the bulldog was used. it isnt finished yet, but the majority of the hut is built. i still need to do some more detailing like finishing the railings, trimming some things here and there, and possibly add some windows. im also planning on making 2 look out towers, maybe have a machine gun in one of them, and possibly some other structures. just wanted to post my results here and see what you guys think, let me know!!

As a period piece it is looking fantastic. Just remember that you do not need to make it fancy. This was dirt scrabble poor living in that area during that time. Small details like cooking utensils, buckets, wooden platters, etc will make it come alive.

thanks for the tip. i was at A.C. Moore a few weeks back and they had an abundance of small items that would work great. they are for doll houses but some of the stiff is really nice and would fit perfectly with this. they had utensils, buckets, guns, tools, all kinds of stuff. the only downside is the prices were VERY expensive. a single miniature shot gun was priced at 15 dollars! for now though im going to finish the basic structure, and maybe do some detail painting like adding muddy tracks from walking in and out. im not going to make it too perfect, as i realize it would have probably been a fishermans hut that was taken over. im glad to hear im on the right track though. its time consuming but the end product is worth the effort!

Looks good. I am doing the same thing at my museum....building Bau Bang VN Villiage, which was a training area during the VN war.
Problem is I am restricted to a 21 x 21 inch diorama @ 1;35 scale and it represents houses from various areas of VN. Diorama is still about 50 % finished and a lot of adjustments need to be made, including laying another 200 + punji stakes in the moat.. The training area no longer exists and I am going on poor quality photos in the museum. Your house looks like a good rendition of something in the Mekong Delta. Working with bamboo is NOT fun. [:'(]

actually it isnt bamboo but it looks enough like it so i figured what the heck, might as well use it. im not really sure what the material is, its made out of a old set of blind that i had sitting around that the hardware broke on. i figured it would work perfect for what i wanted to make. the grass on the roof is some hay type of stuff i seen at walmart in the crafts section. it was 2 bucks for a big bag of it. the hut itself took the most time to make, roughly 9 hours alone on just the huts walls and floor, and railing. the roofs hay was probably the hardest part of it i would say only because it wasnt easy to work with. i ended up just laying it out flat and as even as i could get it on the table and then hot glueing lines across it to hold it into wide strips. i then just glued them on and trimmed the edges. im happy with how it looks sofar. probably another day before i have it and the tower finished and detailed with what i have to work with. any thoughts on having a machine gun mounted in the tower?

heres the tower with the hut and the bulldog. the tower isnt finished. the main part of the build is done. all i have left now is the details on the hut and the tower. once i finish detailing them i will start on another smaller hut. and yes i am aware that the tower doesnt have a ladder! i have to make one still

Soon you will have so many toys... you won't have time to take them out to play. Very nice.

yeah i really wish i had a nearby indoor facility where i could setup any structures i make and leave them there. i have a feeling im going to make a ton of structures and end up having to carry them out and set them up everytime i go out to "play"! or i could just keep them at home and use them with a display case for the bulldog. i would like to get a nice glass front display case to showcase all my tanks!

I feel your pain. I had to make a storage rack in my garage just to hold the buildings I am making for our club. Now I am looking at a trailer just to transport them to the field.

SWEET!!
