Default Started Paint on the new KV-1

Started the paint tonight and i got tired of looking at the LED bulb sticking out so i took a plastic spacer, a beveled washer and a headlight lens off one of my model cars and incased it, let me know what you think
still more detailing to do

That looks better. The stock HL headlights look pretty bad..

check Trumpeter....they were making 1;16 scale Russian tankers.
I have one in my NKVA T-34/85. Pretty sure by now they have a larger selection.

Thanks Bill

i will try looking there not much room under the hatch for me to put a commander just shoulders and head would be sticking out,
you have any stowage specs on the KV-1 what they would carry and how it would be strapped down?

nothing SOP in Russia...they rarely carried anything and lived off the land. Russian tanks were usually pretty bare. As in all tanks, anything carried would be placed where it wouldn't interfere with anything or vibrate off.

With TCs, that's about all you're going to do with any of them....just the upper torso, but much better to be low in the hatch, not waist up as most have TCs, making a great sniper target.

You can always cut about 3/25 of the LED off the front to make them flat or flush in some housings. What you've done there actually looks pretty good, something I would have never thought of. Good start on the paint too  I like the KV1 and plan on buying one eventually but man do they exude the cheap plastic look out of the box (my Pershing did too, must be the Green colors), painting is definitely a must. I look forward to seeing how it comes out.

Did you paint the letters on or is that vinyl ? They have a nice painted look to them in the photos [8D]

Thanks Candycap

the letters i made a vinyl mask on the plotter
airbrushed it took the mask off was just to give me the outline, then i did some green touchup around it
and then i painted the letters in with the brush i keep wanting to put a red star on it but haven't seen any KV 1's with that i only seen one with a white star
the picture was black and white but was too bright to have been a red star

It's looking good. It's amazing how a little subtle airbrush weathering can rid it of the Shining Lucky Bright Star Toy Company look. Noticed on the rear hull that you've got some exhaust staining(?) above the rear tail light. On the KV's, those two little pipes coming out of the the top of the rear deck are the exhausts.

Headlight looks nice and a quantum leap over HL's abortive attempt. Not sure how they can look at their headlights and think they look fine.

i'm not sure that they are exhaust they may be some kind of filter intakes. Maybe someone else on here would know, because it comes already made it don't tell you anything about parts, if i had to make it instructions would give me a name for what it was putting on.
so anyone know let me know and also the ones on top of the turret i just think they may be air vents and the dome shaped ones would be periscopes
not sure

Spitvalve is correct, those are the engine exhausts. The 2 grills just forward of them are the engine air intakes and the large dome between those is where the engine air filter is located.
On the top of the turret the forward centered item is a ventilator, the 2 tall domes are the gunners periscope dial sight (PT-4-7) and  the commanders PTK sight. The 4 scoops are armored periscope covers, left-gunner, right-commander, 2 rear-rear machine gunner.

Cool Thanks guys that means i can do some more airbrushing i'll put those two like i did on the back exhaust so the one on the back is an exhaust right? cause that is where the smoke comes out of the smoker? maybe one day i'll make the smoke come out of those top pipes

HL has the smoker tube coming out the tail light. Here is a link to replacement exhausts that can be hooked up to the smoker.

Modellino sell a kit to replace the plastic exhausts with functional metal ones. Personally I throw the smoker away tho...

Exhausts can be rusted with baking soda and some careful mixing of rust red and matt black:

No problem, Greg. Here's a couple of good links for KV-1 images. The illustrations show some good detail that most photos just can't capture, and there's nothing like the real deal at Aberdeen for seeing details like welds, wiring, armour etc.

Well Spitvalve

i changed the exhaust and added a light
exhaust is to where it is suppose to be and so is the taillight but i need to know where i can hook up the taillight right now it's hooked up to the machine gun on the front so it only comes on when i shoot the machine gun. i tried to hook it to the headlight and the led on the back lights up but then the front headlight wont so anyone have some ideas on where i can hook it up so that it's on when my tanks is on? hard to get pics of the smoke i will try again tomorrow sometime, plus i have to adjust the exhaust i made it hits on the motor a bit
