Sorry to clutter the forum with such a simple request... I was wondering if someone could measure their Heng Long KV-1 for me. I've searched all over the internet for the dimensions, and found plenty, but they vary quite a bit from store to store.

I'm building a stand for my completed PZIII and I figured while I had access to the woodworking tools, might as well build a stand for my next tank, which should be the KV1. This explains why I need the dimensions, and why I don't yet have the model to measure myself...

16.75 inches long, 8.25 inches wide, 7.25 inches high. I would throw another 1/4 inch on those just for some slack. Those measurements are as close as I could carefully measure.

Rex, thanks so much. That's pretty much what is listed at Banana Hobby and MatoMart, but Hobby King, RC-Fever, and Amazon were all saying it was 21 inches long, so I was confused. They probably meant the length of the box or something. Anyway, now I know exactly I can proceed with the stand.

I attached a few photos of the glass "case" I built for my PZIII. I just need to make the wooden base for it. This has turned out to be surprisingly hard, probably because I am not really a wood-worker. They don't really sell a plank of wood that is as wide as I need for this tank - and it will be even worse for the KV-1. Instead I have decided to make the base out of MDF, and then face the edges with a nicer wood trim, like oak or something. Right now it looks kind of silly having the glass top but nothing for the bottom.

It took quite a while to make the glass box, but it wasn't very expensive. Now I know the dimensions I need to accommodate, I could go ahead and start on the case for the KV-1, and build a wooden base for it too, before I do the tank.

Airbrushler, thanks for telling me about that thread. I've thought it would be great to put in some cobblestone or something, at the least. I may still try.

There could probably be an entire thread on how to display our models...

The etching was very simple, as I found out. This was the first time I've done any work with glass so it was all new to me.

I don't have a vinyl cutter but I just sent the design to Callie at [link=http://www.callie-graphics.com/]CallieGraphics.com[/link]. I ordered three copies so I could practice on some scrap glass, and it cost me $20 bucks shipped. She's very good for doing any kind of vinyl work. I just had to ask for them as a mask.

The eagle design is a vector I found online and just resized to my needs. The text was also from a font I found online, called "Heidelbe."

For the etching I just used [link=http://www.amazon.com/Armour-bottle-RECOMMENDED-CLEANING-GLASSES/dp/B0001DTWYG]Armour Etch cream[/link] and followed the instructions on the bottle. A bottle costs less than 10 bucks and will last a very long time. You can also find it sometimes locally at Michael's.

The results were surprisingly professional, I did not expect it to turn out so well. It does help to practice on a scrap piece of glass (if you build a case you will have plenty of scrap, I can attest). You learn that cleaning the glass really well first, rubbing the mask down real hard before applying the cream, and applying the cream in a uniform thickness is the key to a consistent result.

It's hard to take a good photo of the wording along the bottom, but in real life it looks quite nice.

I agree 100% with Rex. I think a build thread is in order here. It would be great if you could do a thread on the case you plan on building for your KV-1. Case looks great as does the PZ III ( one of my favorites )

Thanks for the compliments guys. Unfortunately I did not really take any photos, other than what you have seen above, when I built the case. So I don't think I have quite enough for a build thread. However, when I construct the next one I will document it more thoroughly and do a thread at that time... I must warn, it could be a while before I get to it. But when I do, I'll post in this forum.
