Does anyone know of a source of replacement gears for Tamiya elevation units?
The particular gear I'm looking for is the one on the shaft for the elevation arm.
That gear has a flat to to prevent it from slipping on the shaft.
I managed to strip the gear at this attachment point on my Tiger, so the gearwill no longersupport the weight of the barrel.
I replaced the gear with one on an extra elevation unit I had, but nowthat unit isshort a gear.
Any ideas?</p>

Yeah, if we're talking about the TI ... just get the whole unit from the museum http://shop.aaftankmuseum.com/search...show=10&page=4 for $22.00 and use yours as spare parts.

Well, I hope it doesn't. I've built a few Tamiya tanks (and battled for a few years) since 2004 and yet to have one of them fail. As a matter of fact I am replacing that unit in my Panther with a servo ... just to eliminate the stupid noise and abrupt stop and ratcheting action too.
Good luck!

I have servos in two of my tanks for elevation. I like the Tamiya unit better. The Panther gun unit is nose heavy Jim. Add a weight under the gun at the rear and it will help balance things out. My gun is synced to the video cameras rotating head so it does double duty. It took me more than 4 years to wear out the stock elevation unit. I do strongly recommend Daryl's metal elevation arm.

I already have Daryl's elevation arm as well as the blue gear in place of the clutch gear.
Last night I cut a couple of coils out of the elevation spring to help counter the weight of the Schumo barrel.
Hopefully this will las a few years.

Is it the black gear you are talking about?
I picked up one of the Tamiya Gear set toys for the Blue gears that replace the clutch gear, but none of them seem to match the flat black gear.
You might check out some of the other Tamiya Set like this for spare gears.

The Yellow gear in that set should be the same as the black gear. I have blue gears in all of mine and they all came from this one gear box. It has 3 or 4 of them in it , but I do believe they yellow on is a output shaft gear.

The yellow gear is similar to the clutch gear without a hole and the orange gear has a round hole.
The shaft gear has a hole with a flat corresponding to the flat on the shaft.
The flat rounded off allowing the gear to slip on the shaft.
