STATIC Hooben Elefant?

So is the only things really missing from the static version from the RC version is the aluminum barrel, the gearbox and recoil/elevation units ... and both needing electronics?
I mean, if I were to use the Tamiya electronics and a Tamiya gearbox, wouldn't the static version be a good bet? I just don't want to pay for stuff I will be deciding over anyway and I can have a barrel made ... or even at that, do without.
I just can't get any communications from over there on the kits and the difference. Tamiya parts are very accessible and affordable ... as long as this static kit still comes with the metal sprockets and road wheels.
Any suggestions? I think the difference is like almost $70.00.

I am not understanding what you mean? If you buy the Elephant kit, you can use Tamiya electronics to power the gearboxes, elevation, traverse and recoil units that come with it. Plus the kit ETO sells includes the aluminum barrel too. Whta kit are you looking at?

Panther F, I have an elephant kit that I bought from Bob at ETO armor. The kit as sold comes with traverse and elevation servos for the main gun.It also has a very nice setup for track adjusting
built in.The main drive sprockets at the rear attach to a stub shaft 7/16" in diameter which passes through a i/2" long roller bearing. The stub shaft then connects to the output shaft of the gearbox
via two set screws each.I don`t see why anyone would supply all this fine machineing just for a static model? Also, have you checked the prices of the Tamiya MFU-01 and the TO-3 ? They are not inexpensive anymore, since they each run over $200.00 apiece, not counting the TBU which goes for $75.00,unless you go somewhere else than e-bay or the tank museum.Thats the path that I followed. If you then bought a Tamiya gearbox( don`t know what they cost) you may then have to modify the new gearbox shaft to fit the stub shaft coming from the drive sprocket.I don`t see how
you can effect a cost savings of around $70.00 that way.Good luck in your endevours.

Joe, you really need to get out more often.
There is a static kit available, minus the RC components but I am sure your boss has filled you in on it by now. [

Just trying to save a buck by doing most of the sweat equity myself by supplying the stuff that come in the RC version.
Thanks for everyone's input.

perhaps i get out too much being that i havent seen it. in any case i think it is less cost effective, as youd have to buy the static kit and then the extra parts to rc it anyway. eto's kit has evrything but the boards. i wish you luck in finding a better deal...but should that not happen, i do have a kit or two in stock
