Hay rc 19
No tank R/C mags but there are modeling mags that show the building and detailing of 1/35 tanks.
Mags of real tanks too, go to chapters and see, or North Star Hobbies have them in the west end of TO, east end would be Wings and Wheels, for mags.
Also some R/C plane, Boat and car mags, not tanks ...hummm... a new business adventure for some one?

No RC Armor magazines.

Some of you may remember AFV-G2 magazine published to the mate 1970 early 1980s(?). Went belly up after that.
Very unfortunate as I really enjoyed it. Still have stacks of the old issues. It was focused on 1:1 scale but had modeling articles as well. Loved the paint chips glued to pages; it was a strictly black and white format otherwise.

Museum Ordnance was another, I believe it is also gone.

I published a semi yearly newsletter on RC armor in the very late 1980-very early 1990s; a short run. It was more or less taken over by a local chap here and made into a quarterly affair "Recon Report" ( by Rich Upton ). Microscopic circulation.

There was a British magazine publisher that dedicated a section to large scale AFVs for a while but it also went belly up
after a relatively short time.

Wasn't there a eZine published by that chap out of New Zealand for a while? Never got into that one.

Other than the odd article in other mags ( I wrote one for RCM, now also defunct, which was published in 1992 ) there
hasn't been much. A lot of interest in the hobby has been transitory in nature; when the new wears off the interest is cast aside.

It may sound as an interesting notion, to publish a magazine on the hobby, but anyone taking it on will quickly exhaust the existing news worthy subjects....

Good luck and don't plan on quitting yer day job...

If you want to waist an investment then go ahead and produce an RC tank magazine if it lasts 6 months you will have done very well, one of the reasons is it simply cant compete with the internet and will always be a month or two behind the net, the same people who moan that Tamiya haven’t released a new tank for 100€ ready to run with a battle system and 2.4 gig radio will moan that the news is outdated

There was also a magazine called On The Battlefront back in 2003 that was dedicated to 1/16 tanks. It was a publication of MACV.....Michiana Armored Combat Vehicles. It only ran for 4 issues, and was really interesting, at least to me. I was going to write an article about my Stuart build, but it stopped due to lack of circulation and their advertisers didn't work out. At least that's my understanding. There is still a website for MACV, but it hasn't been brought up to date for years.

Also, there was (still is?) an incredible magazine called RC World that was published in Japan in 2000, and is in Japanese. I have an issue of it and the magazine is 3/8 of an inch thick. It is full of stories and advertisements about RC models that have never been available in the US. A writer/photographer from Japan did an article that appears in that issue about the 1999 BAT battleday in San Jose, and the Jacques Littlefield collection.

You're correct Rex, it was a great publication! Advertisers and real life, it was a lot for Ken to do by himself. I'm glad I have all the issues because I don't think one will ever be pulled off as such again, especially as Mark mentioned that the Internet is the biggest obstacle.

I am really surprised to see so many RC magazines at the hobby store today as I picked up an issue of RC Truck all because of an article about a WWII Dodge Power Wagon in it.

I 'borrowed' these images of AFV-G2 from closed e auctions so you guys could see what they looked like.
I surprised at the prices these go for ....

I have 2 issues of On The Battlefront laying around. Bought the last that Hobby World in Jacksonville had on the stand since they said they were going to be a collectors item.

Sorry to be a pessimist but if you think you can make a go of an RC tank magazine, best of luck to you. The only hobby RC mags around now are dedicated to cars & flying since they command the largest segment of the market.

Comparing RC tanks to the likes of Playboy????? Or mens magazines in general? Yea right!

Hadn't seen these in years & always thought it one of the best RC tank related publications I'd come across.

Many thanks Eric!

Scale Military Modeller International (www. sampublications)is very good - all scales, not just armour but full fo interesting topics and best of all - some great advertisements for things you might never stumble across on the net.

Not sure if an RCtank mag would ever survive. 1/35 has the modelling side sown up and when you consider the huge range of models in that scale.........it would be difficult to run a mag using the 10 or so (if even)RCmodels available.

Only so many articles you could write about the Tiger!

The Proving Ground eZine was all done by Eric Scott. It's his property and I have continued to host it at Eric's request. I think Eric is very talented and did a great job, and so says everyone I have heard from, until now. I'm very sorry to hear that Mr Tanque did not find Eric's work to his liking but he seems to be the odd man out on this particular subject.

Both the Proving Ground & Battle Front were great while they lasted. I actually conributed an article to the Proving Ground & almost had for Battle Front but it ended.

Now there's a lot more to write about with more RC tank options out there. Not only Tamiya, Henlong, Mato & other 1/16 scale products but other scales are out in force like Vs & Forces of Valor in 1/24. Also Vs has the 1/72 scale toys & Tamiya broke into the 1/35 scale (great for indoors).

There are also more clubs. more people and more sellerrs carrying these products than when these magazines were being distributed. So I say why not start again? Be persistent like the Ancient Romans, if you fail at first learn, continue & you will succeed. If someone has the energy & time to start an new publication I think it would be worth a try, I think there's a lot more people out there hungry for information.

There's a lot of information on this site, Nev's site is also great (still sad about the loss of the forum there) and the few club sites that are still up have a lot to look at. A printed magazine like the ones dedicated to air & cars & trucks would be great but I think we are far from there.

Also don't forget the 1/6 scale stuff, especially the paintball combat. I think if anything was to have a chance of success it would need to include the full muster of RC tanking.

Those forums take up a hell of a lot of file space, so I had to make to choice between having a forum or continuing to add more reviews. The reviews won, since there are plenty of tank forums but only one dedicated review site. I have real trouble keeping up with reviewing the tanks that are sent in, I'm way behind at the moment, I just needed a break from tanks for a while and I'm catching up now. I had tried using other reviewers but this mainly resulted in them just keeping the stuff and never hearing from them again,, some of it very expensive, leaving me in the crap with the sponsors concerned. there were some exceptions of course, honest blokes like Eric and some others who did supply a review of the product they received, but I resolved, after having to compensate sponsors for 'lost' product, never to go that way again.

BTW Eric I will put the Proving Ground mags back on the nav bar, I made some changes a while ago and just forgot to put them back.

I think it would be a hard road to go, creating an RC Tank magazine, but would wish anyone well who would be prepared to try. You will know you are making a good go of it when the usual knobs, who never achieved anything, start criticising what you do.

Thanks Nev for the words.

Perhaps the way to go is a video-mag like the viral youtube vids for promoting the hobby.

Maybe a RCTank channel on youtube?

Can anyone recommend a good easy video editor?
