VERY nice! Now I can build an accurate looking StuG with zimm instead of calling it a "late version".

Thanks for the tip! I need to get some for an early Panther G too!

There is a picture of a captured Stug III G, in use by an American unit painted in olive drab and big white stars on it, with this concrete add on armor and it is so cool looking. I have seen photos of the German Stugs as well.

Are you sure you're not talking about Operation Greif, where Otto Skorzeny had their German tanks painted as Allied Tanks?

Atak makes a nice product, but I'd check references regarding the concrete armor, waffle zim and the non sauerkopf mantlet. I can't remember seeing any of those together. There is definitely a few alkett waffle with early mantlet. Not that means anything, between field applied mods as well as salvaged hulls, main gun repair and late war service, you could probably argue any possibility.

mustclime is correct. I think that photo is in the Squadron Signal Stug Photo book. Loved those books!!!

Did anyone notice that the remote machine gun mount is sporting a MP-44 assault rifle? This is one of the changes they made on late model Stug III G's. It was proposed for the Tiger II ball mount as well.

There is a nice conversion kit from Panzerparts (Modellino) with the Sauerkopf mantlet (plus other parts):

I picked a remote gun system off eBay from the Blue Star people who make that Hetzer and I already have the late return wheels. So, since I have a StuG IV conversion kit I do not need a late mantlet so I'll scratch build some Schurzen and I'm set for a mid to late StuG III Ausf.G

I think just some zimm will be all I need.

Sounds cool.

If you are making metal Schurzen, K&S (most good LHS have a display) has a perfect scale angle iron in brass for the main rail. The sheet and other pieces will need to be cut to size, but the 45 degree angle of the main is available.

The MP44 is probably just resting in the mount as opposed to being mounted, no pictures nor evidence exist to support MP44 being fitted to any AFV, with a 32 round magazine they would require frequent reloading not to mention the weapon overheating and the rate of fire would drop

I have any number of photos showing the Cast deflector in front of the commanders cupola....but whats with the second piece as shown in the ATAK kit?  Anybody have a photo of that piece in use on a stugIII or IV?

Yeah, that 'corner piece' must be a rarity as I haven't seen too many of them in use.

But it's there if needed!

So would this be a picture that may support the idea/attempt to mount this gun on an AFV. I agree it may be just resting in the mount, but still interesting that one immediately discounts a photo that may support what the WAPRUF was proposing to do with the MP-44? Just a thought rivetcounter. I am in no being disrespectful of your vast knowledge of German Armor.
