Just read this on RCTR
HobbyBoss getting in to 1/16 scale with a Tiger

Wouldn't it be great to have a bunch of $80 static kits to use for parts. Sure wish they would do their 2A6M CAN with the slat armour like they did in 1/35 scale
Cheers

Because in terms of mass appeal people have raised the tiger to a sort of godlike, unkillable BA tank status. Or any german tank from WWII for that matter. This is a first venture, so I am sure they just want to get a large audience and see how it goes

Unfortunately they are getting into a marketplace that is already well-populated by Tamiya, Heng Long and Wasan/Torro, the only way they can eke a niche for themselves is if they do a late Tiger.
Tamiya and Heng Long already have the early Tiger well covered, Wasan/Torro does a mid-production Tiger. Hate to say this, and I probably sound like a whiner, but they would have more luck doing a modern tank of any kind.

This is a static late tiger if I'm not mistaken, pretty sure no one does one in 1/16 already. It'll hopefully be great for kit bashing a late version without the expensive metal parts!

A Comet, Churchill, or Abrams would have sold better would be my guess.

You said it YHR....I'm with you...

Yes I know how popular the Tiger is but this 1/16 scale market is saturated with Tigers. My fear is Hobbyboss will have dismal sales with it, and then give up on 1/16 as being unprofitable .
A Comet, Churchill, or Abrams would have sold better would be my guess.

Considering Trumpeter produces most of Hobby Boss' kits, I'd not be surprised if a lot of the parts aren't being pulled off tooling from the now defunct WSN R/C Tiger.

Also everyone seems to be overlooking there is no static late tiger and this is massively cheaper than the other 1/16 static kits
