Need help, I installed RX18 board and all new wiring (double checked) with an inline fuse, everything is working fine except forward/reverse and left/right are all backwards on the radio levers. Any suggestions? Its the 27 mh type. Also, I need to get a set of 4:1 gears boxes. Anyone know of a reasonably priced outlet for that? Or even a set of used ones.

Unless I am mistaken, you could just swap the left motor to the right gearbox, and right motor to the left gearbox, without changing any of the wiring.

I think Cleong is right :P Just swap the left and right motors where they plug into the board and that should solve both the forward-backward AND the left-right steering issue.

Sounds like you reversed the polarity of the motors (if you removed/gut the motor wires) or plugged the left motor leads into the right motor connection. Does it recoil forward when firing or backward as it should?

@ the commander----I probably did reverse the motor plugs. I was probably looking at it from the front instead of as the driver. As far as the recoil, I dont have that feature.

Anybody know what the gear ratio on a stock Henglong with plastic gears is? Both of mine are geared way too high. I chainged the Panther plastic ones for the black steel ones, no change in gearing, and the Tiger 1 came with metal gears and is the same as the Panther.

There are several options for aftermarket gears to slow down your tank. For a while now the Mato 3:1 brass gears have been out and are pretty popular. As far as the newer Taigen / HL style black steel gears the 4:1 gears are very good and I have several in my heavier tanks. You can tell the difference in that the 4:1 gears have an extra smaller gear towards the back of the assembly.

Any of these sets are available from most online tank vendors, check out rctank.de, welsh dragon models, immortal hobbies, TankArmy, and a bunch of guys on eBay too. I've ordered from all of these fellas and they're great vendors.


...as for the actual ratio.. it's been asked many times and the answer is basically... who knows...!! The reduction gears will slow your tank by a third and up to about a half depending on what you install. Lately I've been recommending the steel 4:1s because they are tough and simple to work with.

You have you motors swapped on the RX 18. Swap them on the RX 18 and your problem will be fixed. This is a classic example of the RH, LH plugs being plugged into the wrong jacks on the RX18.

Thanks everyone. I switched the plugs and it worked great. ....I am glad I installed an inline fuse now that there is variable speed it blows the fuse when tank is in a bind going slow. New gear box should take care of that. Anyway, you all have been a big help,
