Hmmm. I think there is an option to set the maingun to be an MG, maybe that is what it was?

There is. It's for light vehicles like scout cars, and that only works vs other Clark tanks / vehicles that are set to take machine gun damage.

Hi I have now tested 3 clark boards against 2 Tamiya Tigers ,all the clarks killed the Tamiyas with M.G. fire only. 2 of the clark boards were tk20 german type 1 of them was a tk22 Sherman.
