Default Does anyone own a Clark TK35 board?

Hey all,

Is there someone besides myself that happens to own a TK35 board? If so, can I ask you the following questions?

1. How do you have your movement, traverse, elevation, fire controls setup on your radio?
2. What mechanism are you using for turret traverse? I've hacked 3 servos for 360 degree rotation some with and some w/o circuitry none of which seem to work properly. I'm not sure what traverse mechanism is supposed to be used given these boards were mean for 1/35th scale.
3. Did you use a servo for elevation, if so, do you have to move the stick (depending on your configuration) 3/4 in some direction then move it again to make the gun elevate? Very complicated IMO and I lack the dexterity to do it half the time and end up firing the gun when I only meant to elevate it.

I'm not sure if the TK22 is this frustrating or not, but I'm having a real hard time with the TK35 at the moment in getting it in the ballpark of functioning like a Tamiya setup.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, I have one. I could not get the 360 rotation working so I hacked a servo. Disconnect the motor from the pots and connect it as a normal motor to the board. As to the control, it operates just like a Clark tk22 which is frustrating as the Tamiya setup is better. One option is to use a Turnigy 9x with the open source er9x freeware firmware. This allows you to control it like a Tamiya board. I learned a lot from this guys blog http://jbwid.com/art74m.htm.

Hope this helps - Joe

Hey thanks alot Joe. That site is very informative for sure. I'm using a Spekrum DX6i and not sure if I have all of those programmable options that Turnigy has. I'd hate to have to change my radio system all around just to accomodate a funky gun elevation control on one battle system since my other 3 are Tamiya. But then again, i can see accidently firing the gun in the heat of battle when I meant only to elevate it enough to throw the radio into the street! LOL Especially if I accidently shot my teamate because of it. I'll practice for a while before passing judgement or simply just disable the elevation altogether and consider it the price/sacrifice for using a much less expensive battle system.

I was able to get assistance from Clark and the turret traverse (using a servo with circuitry removed) is now resolved so the project can now move foward.

Anyhow, aside from these learning experiences along with having to adjust to a different system, I really like the board and hope it works out for me and my light tank projects.

I have a Clark programming question. Assuming the programming is the same with the TK35 and TK22, I don't quite understand how to actually make changes to the various functions. The instructions tells you how to select what function, but not how to actually change the value for the function. I assumed maybe you simply keep hitting a given button multiple times and then it would cycle through each value for that setting and the lights would change the number number of flashes to indicate a particular setting. The number of flashes remain the same however when I tried this so I'm guessing I'm still doing it wrong.

Can someone possibly point me in the right direction on this? I'm probably over thinking this for some reason but I'm lost in how to do this. I have the jumper in J2 and the TBU plugged in and it flashes so I must be close!

Thanks!

Dave

Dave
when selecting functions you need to make sure that you have at least one led hooked up to your BU. Say for example you want to set the number of shells your tank carries.
What you do is the appropriate first steps, once you are aiming your remote you choose your function button in this case it is the number 8 on your remote. Hit the #8 once, your led attached to the BU will blink a number of times signifying how many shells you can carry. If you hit the #8 again your settings should increase to the next value.
#8 hit once will move your selection to the second value which in this case is 8 rounds of ammo. If you hit the #8 again you change the value to 16 rounds etc etc etc.
With the Clark board the values always increase to the maximum value then they drop back to the minimum value and increase through the scale again.

Thanks Curtis for the info. I emailed Clark about this because the diagram on the website didn't match the silk screening on the TK that I have as far as "J2" goes. Also, there was some confusion as to which pins where to be jumped in order to put the board into programming mode which was ultimately the problem i was having. I simply could not get the board into the programming mode no matter what I seemed to have tried. I used one of the 3-pin cables to jump pins 2 and 3 and it worked like a charm so I'm all set now. He also modified the instructions on the website as well so it should be even more helpful for newbie TK35 owners like myself.

Thanks again,

Dave
