I don't have a P4 yet, I'm going to do them this summer. Got to get a lower hull and one transmission. My transmissions are pretty low so unless there's a very low main gun trunnion on the JP4 it will fit.

So what is the order of gearboxes left to be done at this point?

Does anyone know if the TUs will fit a Taigen? In particular the Panther TU in the Taigen metal upgrade hull ie the Panther "F" hull?

The lower porfile is appealing. I could also run Tamiya tracks.

I will need the measurement of the Taigen TU. Put the TU on a flat surface and measure the height of the center of the final drive shaft from the flat surface. Also, a photo of the installed unit in the Taigen hull, straight down from the top. Clearances in the Panther hull are tight for the drive system at the hull nose.

Thought you already had a Taigen T1 with eto's?

Panther TU's are different, there is very little room in the nose. Basically 95% of the parts are the same but Panther has a couple parts specially modified for that hull.

P4/JP Lange are different and unique to those tanks.

Yup, affirmative on that Bob. Was just wondering if Troy already had a Taigen with the eto's the gearbox mount holes might be the same?

Understood, Benny. I don't remember which mounts Troy got with his set but basically since the hulls have different inside widths he would probably need Panther mounts and Panther main frames. It's then a case of locating the two holes in the hull floor on each side and the standoffs have to clear the torsion bars. Actual height of the standoffs is easy to figure and/or adjust. Rough calculation for the standoff height is the height measurement of the final drive shaft center of the existing transmission. Since he's going to use Tamiya tracks I would think he will also use Tamiya sprockets, ergo they will bolt on to my units with no modifications. That's one problem out of the way to start.

According to the pics on your site, the motors appear to be included, but no specs are given for them. ??
Also, will it fit the Taigen lower metal hull for the Jagdpanther?

I dont have a set of Panther TUs. I only have the sherman ones. The big issues will be the clearance to the lower glacis. I'm just going to use the 4:1 58mm shaft. The 380 motors Taigen sells would be to fast for a panther or JP, but not a panther F.

I'll have a set of the 4:1 in a few days to measure. Bob said he would let us know more from there. Daryl Turner also has offered to help figure this out. I'll snap a pic of the 4:1 in the taigen lower and you can see the issue that could come into play.

Notice the reliefs already cut into the glacis.

I'll get a mike reading of the clearance needed for my units to fit. The relief is definitely needed, it's a close fit in any Panther/JP.

11.5MM to the center of shaft from the base of the TU. 4mm from the shaft to the front of the TU. Standard HL bolt pattern.

Panther unit should fit but it will have to be trial fit in the hull.

Is the relief cut in to the lower front hull plate actually a bulge in the plate visible from outside?

The plate is flush on the outside. The relief cut is only visible on the inside.

Bret, My Taigen Late T1 has stock TUs with 480 promax motors.

If the relief is only on the inside then my Panther units should work. Can't be 100% without the lower hull either in Daryl's or my hot little hands.

Do you know the RPM count on the Promax units?

If you want D can send them to me and I can test fit. I can give him them back at D-ville or ship whichever is faster based on when we do it. I have a hull that I'm about to build so I can do it pretty quickly.

I will speak to him today and get his OK on this. If anyone can figure it out, he can.

Thanks for the specs on the ProMax 480. They are a little slower than what I'm using now. What I really need is 480's with 22,000 or so RPM's. Used to be able to find them easily but my supplier stopped carrying them 18 months and more ago. Since I haven't been able to find them.

Bob that won't work for me. I'll be done building this hull and will be using it at Danville. I was offering to test fit it prior to me completing the build. If you don't want to send the stuff I understand, but I only have the sherman version here and they are different.

If daryl wants to take my panther F apart at Danville and fiddle with it, that is the only one I'm willing to have disassembled reassembled then repeat.

What size shaft can you use on those motors?

OK, I misunderstood what you wanted. I'll have Daryl send you a Panther unit. My units use the Tamiya final drive measurements and the shaft is 5 mm with a spacer to make the correct total length.

Is your addy in Littlestown still the same?
