sherman dilemma

Decisions, decisions....building this M4a2 to sell on. Don't know whether to do it as a British Sherman as it should be...or go all "Fury" on it with logs and stowage like the M4a2 that they used in the film..... @)

My advice for that model, do it as a brittish tank.
Fury was an M4a3e8. It had a late welded hull, HVSS suspension, T23 turret with 76mm gun.
There is nothing on that model but the hull you be able to use. A good model to start with is a tamiya sherman or this, http://www.matomart.com/product.php?c=1000089
and then just change the hull to a welded hull.
In process of making my onwn from a tamiya.
have fun.

'Fury' is actually an M4A2E8 - they used Bovington's ex Canadian forces example.

Back on thread:
The French 2nd division used a lot of M4A2's early in the ETO - the Tamiya decal set has suitable markings that work at a pinch, a possible idea there?

Oh duh, yeah, didnt realize that was you.
i think the other two main tanks actually have those names in the collectors private hands.
i have a long article on it in the mvpa mag. If you want i can send you pics of the other tanks , there are a few pics.
Fury is clearly an A3E8.
I think an m4A2 was a cast front upper hull and welded behind that, but i dont have a reference book at hand.

My vote: go USMC in the Pacific. They used a lot of M4A2 (Tarawa or Iwo Jima have plenty of subjects with photos, I believe) because it used a diesel engine and getting diesel was easier than getting MOGAS. Oh, and many of them used logs, planks or tracks to add to the hull armor. So, you could scratch that itch, too!

Martin's correct. THE TANK USED FOR FILMING IS A M4A2E8. We know this because we've been lucky enough to see the real vehicle used countless times at Bovington........
The ingredients for my Fury were a Heng Long upper/lower hull, tamiya suspension and a modified Mato turret.

You guys are missing the point, he's asking whether he should build it as one of the support tanks from the movie or as a British tank.
I'd go for one of the squadron tanks, that way you can ride the Fury wave, but offer something different.

decided to go for a "Fury" inspired tank. She's not going to be an exact replica, but more in the style of the tanks in the film, logs, stowage and dirt....

It all depends on how much work that has gone into it and the aftermarket parts which are installed. This one will have no electrics but will have all the wiring including IR emmitter and apple base, painted up, ready to have a DBC/clarke etc installed and I'd want say £200 to £250 for her

Done a little wiring on my M4a2...Although I'll be selling her with no electrics, I want it to be easy for the buyer to install a system of choice. To that end she's got a standard HL 8-pin socket for the upper hull functions and the IR emitter/battle system wires are on a D-plug...just got to decide whether to remove the battery box....

The Sherman is pretty tall, so its not like you need to rip it out to stuff bulky electronics inside - I've never had trouble stuffing tamiya electronics inside, but I would imagine making the Tamiya speaker fit as well would be a challenge

I've managed to fit a DBC system in both my Firefly and "Fury", one with battery box, one without so I suppose it makes no odds. I might leave it and let the buyer decide....

Looking good Frank!
I would cut down a Tamiya Pershing speaker than use the stock Sherman speaker... especially when it's NOT a 105MM gun. I'm also looking at fitting the Tamiya KV/PIV speaker in as well. A little nicer looking box with an aluminum top, small type speaker. The Tamiya Sherman speaker is way too big and was designed for that howitzer sound.

Old Fatman posted a thread about using speakers for model trains. I guess they're better for the bass range and that's mainly what we want for tanks. Haven't had a chance to try them out yet, but I'll get a roundtuit. Today I just got some high torque 360 motors to play with.
If any of y'all know a thing or two about electronics I'd appreciate it if you would PM me to answer a question on capacitors. I don't want to highjack the thread, so I hope I hear from someone more knowledgeable than myself, which don't take much!
