Default Red Menace; Tamiya JS-2

This Tamiya WWII Soviet JS-2 runs on the wide KV-1 kit tracks as a few did back in the day and the only other mod is a metal elevation arm. Haven't built a tank for me in almost 3 years, but this one is all mine.

Happy New Year, John

Sweet.

That kit is certainly a fun one.

A tough tank too, good battler. Only downside is that loooooooong barrel takes some time to swing around.

Thank you and yes a fun, simple kit to build straight out of the box (great for first time builders too), no running issues at all.

The tanks clunky size maneuver issues aside, I found if I can't score hits, I can easily just "spear" any kraut Panther that approaches within close range. I got my kit with a Futaba 2.4 radio for $863.35 insured, delivered in 5 days and a pretty good deal too:

I did the Banzai deal on mine too, a few bucks less with a more favorable exchange rate last year and it was 2 days to NY. Love Banzai Hobby.

Can't beat the Tx/Rx kit combo, especially for that price. I would have used them for the IV and Panther too, but I guess those older boxes are heavier, the shipping went from $90 on the JS-2 to $140 for the others, so I stayed local.

More Red Menace, a five year build review.

Photos.

1. The Hen Long ZTZ 98 Chinese Army Tank is converted to use the Tamiya KV/JS-2 DMD - MF Controllers and the "ZTZ 99A Model" (red stars) uses the Clark Controller Board.

2. The two KV-1s and the two JS-2s are Tamiya F/O Kits as is the Pz4J.

2a. First Tamiya KV-1 build without markings. Correcting the then new kit issues with Daryl Turner: http://forum.axels-modellbau-shop.de...p?threadid=743

2b. Second Tamiya KV-1 build with markings. Same as before, but built last November 2014: http://www.rctankregiment.com/rctank...hp?f=33&t=8044

3. The two Tamiya JS-2s are built stock out of the box and both use a metal elevation arm from ETO Armor. The dusty JS runs on KV-1 kit tracks and was built last December 2014.

Still waiting for a Russian RC T-72 in 1/16 scale, but maybe I'll get a Taigen T-34, after they start shipping with Clark's Board or similar board.

Enjoy, John

Thanks Airbrushler.

My Leopard needed a foe. The ZTZ 98 is a light weight, simple fun easy to do hybrid conversion. It runs pretty good. A few photos of the ZTZ 98 rc hull setup, running on plastic suspension & tracks with Mato metal drive sprockets, idlers and using twin Tamiya 380 rc tank motors, KV DMD, MF, TBU plus parts used in the Tamiya Sherman elevation unit setup etc. The twin speakers are from Mato and sound good! The gear in the hull is attached with velcro circles, so I can remove stuff easily, say if a Hen Long T-72 shows up someday.

Enjoy, John

I converted my 99 to an A model and installed a Tamiya KV 1 system in it. It works very well with that DMD and MFU unit in it. The engine sound seems to suit it nicely. i also always liked the transmission engage function on the KV 1 just like the Pershing model You can sit there and rev the engine and when you need to move just flip the throttle trim and away you go.
