1/16 SdKfz 186 Jagdtiger (Hunting Tiger) Tank Destroyer

Yes, I knew about the lengthening of the lower hull if I use a Tamiya metal lower pan. Always up for reminders and suggestions. I am torn between using the metal lower from Imex as it is already correct or the parts I have on hand. To add the Imex lower is about $400, that would include Jadtiger metal lower hull, metal road wheels, new v2 4:1 gear boxes, drive sprockets and idlers, and metal tracks for the Jagd. I already have a spare Tamiya Tiger II lower hull with the road wheels and suspension parts. It boils down to spend more money and save time or use what I have and save money????

I'm curious about the interchangeability of the brands. Like... with a few adjustments the HL Panther upper hull will fit on the Tamiya Panther/Jagdpanther lower hull.
You still need to create a way of fastening it together.

I have thought about the way the upper hull connects to the lower hull of the Tamiya. I think I can use the Tamiya back plate from the lower hull and attach it to the upper of the Trumpeter. I plan on testing some parts fit this weekend and will let you know.

LMK if you need dimensions of stuff, I'll be happy to help as much as I can!

That will be interesting to see what you do find.
Like I had to come up with a solution to attach the upper to the lower hull on my mid production Jagdpanther because I am deleting the armored cowl for the engine vent on the Tamiya rear deck.

Update:
Erik sent me my "flash sale purchased Jagdtiger" back in early December 2016 and thank you. The model worked properly out of the box. The Taigen Torro Jagdtiger is an impressive, huge, heavy RC model.
I then searched for 3 months and finally found a perfectly working Tamiya Tiger DMD, MF Set (lightly used) for less than half of the USA new retail price. I now have on hand all the parts required to convert the Jagdtiger to a TBU IR model. This will be a pretty cost effective build; at a price point similar to using a Clark or Elmod setup. John

That's the way to do it John.
(and love the side-by-side of the two TD's)

Yes there will be, I will use two Tamiya elevation units (one for traverse) and a Pershing recoil unit (a true hunt for those parts too) for operating this absurd, huge WWII cannon.

I'll be one of those people, so I hope you'll post lots and lots of photos and videos, John. Have you looked at the unit they have in the Taigen Sturmtiger? I have a couple here (brand new) so if you think they're usable I'd be willing to surrender one in order to copy your work on the other in my JT or JP.

Interesting. Took a while to understand what is going on, but is it really a 2-in-1 unit, with a 360 crank? And they made that same crank move back and forth for traverse; clever.
Thank you, What would you want for this unit?
The first build traverse concept is to copy the Lang setup.

With my apologies to Jeff, the OP. None of this had anything to do with you, Jeff, so I'm sorry for mucking up your thread.

Taigen Torro Jagdtiger work in progress:
Parts List:
Tamiya Pz4J Speaker Box (drop in fit) from AAF Museum.
Tamiya Pz4J battle unit mount base from AAF Museum.
Tamiya Battle Unit from AAF Museum.
Recoil & Elevation Unit Solution: http://www.dklmrc.com/product/metal_recoil
Tamiya motor bullet connectors from either eBay or Amazon.
Tamiya King Tiger DMD & MFU controllers (a friendly price) from an rc tank regiment advertisement.
Traverse deleted. A cool feature for videos and show, but irrelevant for IR fighting. Anyway Otto Carius stated in his book they aimed the vehicle. Read "Tigers in the Mud" to find out why.
Futaba Skysport FM Ground Radio (unused in the box and still new from 6 or 7 years ago).
Enjoy, John

Troy, if you use a quality momentary push button for firing you don't get any barrel movement when you fire. If your programming a switch on a TX not sure if you'll get the same results. Also using a camera hold module works great to keep the servo from going back to neutral if your using a self centering stick on the elevation channel.

Troy,
Still a work in progress, I will get the recoil – elevation unit in a couple of weeks, so I'll have to let you know.
For elevation I will try a Futaba style 360 degree servo: Parallax (Futaba) Continuous Rotation Servo - RobotShop
And "dionysus design" makes great products offering great solutions and see photo below for how it plugs in.
For elevation might want to try a ratchet stick, rather than a self centering stick; we will find out.

John, I used the Asiatam unit and removed the recoil gears and motor. I then attached a servo to the rear corner and fixed a rod to the servo horn so that it pulls the original recoil slide. I leave the ELE since it works fine and is already there. It isn't like the old cam.
I haven't done it yet but I see the area that creates the ELE pivot can be cut off lower than the Asiatam. If I retain most of that I'll be able to use the remaining portion in the hull to afix a trav pivot. This will put the two pivots inline horizontally. The Trav pivot will attach to an extentetion of the Asiatam.
There appear to be two issues with this design. One I will not be able to use hatch you have your battle unit it. I will instead open the rear doors and have made a plastic base that attaches via the screw bosses that are unused in the rear of the casemate.
The second issue I foresee is the Asiatam might need far end support and that will probably be some sort of trolly hooked to the pivot plate. I'm hopping not, and your setup would elliminate that.
I'll probably get to the traverse over the summer or winter between battle dates.
