You might check out the IMEX/Taigen Tiger 1 kit.

Our Tiger 1 kit is a good kit to start with. It is a metal edition Tiger 1 early version tank and comes with no transmitter or motherboard so you can add your own electronics system. It does come with all the rest of the components needed to build the tank and even comes with steel gearboxes. You also get some good USA support if you need too
You can view the nice HD manual here if you wish: http://www.imex-model.com/TANK%20MAN.../TAG12501.html
I worked hard on that manual myself so you let me know if you have any questions.

The Aeromate Tiger 1 is a highly detailed all metal 1/16 kit.

Yes, our tank comes with everything needed to make it either airsoft or infrared. You can't have both installed at the same time, but you can swap between the two whenever you want. In the manual, it shows how to build both types so you can do whichever you wish.

You should also look over tamiya kits. The modern tanks are quite large.

Yeah, half of them are discontinued or out of stock everywhere though....

I honestly want something like an Armourtek, something giant.
