Default This Website is driving me crazy!

I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth and I appreciate the forum provided by the owners for us to display our tanks and swap information, but holy crap Batman, the ads are killing me! I am a good capitalist and understand the need to make money for any business to succeed, but my browser (especially at work) slows to a crawl every time I click on a new page and it frustrates me to the point of being here less and less. Our friends across the pond have a tank based site and I find myself there more often these days simply because it loads quickly. The only thing quite frankly keeping me here is the membership and the friendships I have made amongst you guys. Am I out of order? Am I needlessly complaining? Let me have it! This issue for me has been percolating in my brain for awhile now.

My only response is that I have followed some of your threads and I personally would hate to see you go. Newbies like me need guys like you.

I get the RCU reviews on the right hand side, but no ads and no performance issues.

I use Mozilla Firefox so maybe a change in providers is the ticket?

Same here - Firebox with an adblocker installed.

I accept that Ad's are a necessary evil to help keep the place running, but they have become so intrusive here that the Adblocker was the only way forward.

There are a ton of free Ad blockers out there. At least there are for Mac, I assume there would be more for PC.

I hear ya though, occasionally I need to pause the blocker (History Channel videos freeze when the commercials come up) and if I surf here during the commercial it's a shock to see basically an ad with a some posts stuck between.

It was one of the reasons I walked away from this place a while back, but then my son was using my computer one day and asked what was wrong with me. I grabbed a blocker and haven't looked back.

By the way, there are tons of forums out there and this is the only one I have ever come across ads on. I mean even when searching for a car or appliance repair and you get the Subaru owners, or Maytag, or plumbers etc. forum. No ads, just people talking.

I get it, there's advertising that keeps the lights on, but then there's advertising that creates a profit.

I log into this emporium of delight from the UK and the only ADs on this site that I see are on the sidebar and are UK generated and while I have no love of ADs on my favourite websites these are small and un-intrusive,
I guess what your viewing is more than a couple of small ADs on the sidebar ?

OK, I'm using Chrome and I have the same issues as Cruiser133. There have been times when I just get sick of webcrawling and turn the puter off. Can you tell me something about adblock plus?

Thank you for the sediment. I really appreciate the kind words, but there are guys here who make my builds look childish in comparison. Tanque can make an M60 out of a coffee cup and a stick.

Unfortunately I cannot change my browser at work...

Cruiser133, try the browser "Chromium," not just Chrome. Its a lighter version of Chrome and runs like a dream.

On this note, I use android devices exclusively, Samsung 10" tablet, galaxy S6, no pc except when using photoshop/ illustrator, and it's all jacked up. Can't quote, add images or anything else?

Also cannot view attached images.

Anyone else have this issue?

Any solutions?

Pp.

Mobile viewing on this site on android with high res is pretty horrendous TBH. It helps if you are in landscape mode but even still, it can be difficult with the stock Samsung browser. I would suggest checking out Chrome (same issues but at least much faster) or Firefox which seems to work very well on RCU on mobile.

Using Chrome in all devices, in landscape mode tablet is kind of ok, but still not the greatest.

Don't like having to use pc just to see images. Pc is fast with 8gb ram and SSD drive with 17" screen but still prefer my tablet or phone.

Try Firefox on mobile. It is faster than Chrome atm anyways until the next beta build goes through. Firefox has much smoother scrolling and supports addons in mobile as well. Chrome is nice and all but Firefox is better on mobile for this site. Try it and you will see Remember you can always hit the view desktop site option and it will show you the pictures without loading as well but that makes the site less mobile friendly.
