A bit of R&R

You're giving me bad ideas, I'm now looking at my M36 thinking "well I haven't glued those grills down yet, maybe I could prop them open and model GAA to be lifted out..."

Frank your lineup is looking like mine. LOL
You got me beat on the m32. Im still working on my small hatch m32a3 model. I started with ludwigs kit and had to do a ton of research to make it fit on an a3 hull, i used one of nicks and then had to narrow down ludwigs boom and the coupola becasue they were way too wide and out of scale. Still putzing on it slowly
looking good man.

That’s the beauty of scratchbuildibg...all the adjustments are made during consruction..there’s no modification of “built” parts to get them to work...

Well it wasnt scratch but it wasnt built either, i assembled everything without any plans or mearuements which i would have needed to scratch build one. As i trasferd the assemblys i made to the a3 hull they would not fit. It was then that i went searching for dimensional data and got some help. Turned out ludwig measured an old testors kit of an m3b1 which in the 1:35th scale world is known to be out of dimension. Sadly, that is the exact same model i had on hand to assist with arrangement referance. Talk about screwed. Its always best to start with real dimensional plans that you know are accurate. Next best to use a produced model hoping its accurate. I once was more than half way through building a railroad car from plans provided to me by someone that measured it. That year i traveled to colorado and measured the car to get dimensions i was missing. Turned out his measurements were drastically off. My thought was did he know how to use a tape measure. I threw the unclompleted model away and never got around to building another. I want to build a dragon wagon but am hesitant to scale up a smaller model.

...I just make it up as I go along...most of my builds are done from pics...they may not be 100% accurate but if they look right I’m not losing sleep over it...purists are welcome to go at my models with a ruler...we can discuss them after they pick themselves off the floor...lol

Crane truck under way. I'm going to reuse the slightly over scaled sides from my original proto in order to eliminate 36 hours of printing tho...
I can knock up the winch and shear legs in CAD over the weekend while the seats and cabin floor are printing.

Discovered that I can re-use more from the proto than I thought, only need a new grill, windshield, cabin floor and pickup bed - should speed things up no end
Made some progress on the shear legs:

That looks pretty close to my memory. The tow bar attachment cleats were on some kind of apparatus that wrapped around the bumper, not welded on but for a model that has to work I think that will be fine.
I will hit some of my friends up and see if somebody has a picture of it.

Well I guess we can call that "Close enough for Government work" then
Also made a start on the CCKW today:

I'm working off a Heller kit, so no telling how far it will be out from the real thing...

I'm kind of leary of working off something that small, the errors from scalling down to make the kit and then scalling back up just get componded. I looked at the Tamiya 1/35 kits, but they were way more money than I wanted to spend given all of my other commitments right now.

This is all Frank's fault...

And the Dodge crane truck:

Newest innovation - tires printed in TPU

Also got the majority of the WC63 printed this week, not sure how I'm going to drive all the wheels yet tho...
