I have been considering putting a HL smoke unit into my Pershing tank, so I took a pretty close look at the one that I have. It seems as though there are two wires that go directly into the reservoir where that aerosol goes. I think that the heat from the wires themselves are what vaporizes the liquid and produces the "smoke".

While experimenting, I hooked my smoker up in the tank and got the pistons moving, but it produced no smoke because I had not connected those two wires to the little, square (I guess it is some kind of relay) that mounts on top of the smoke unit. That little rascal burned my finger! To tell you the truth, I'm kind of afraid to have that hot thing exposed inside of my precious tank because it might catch something on fire. [sm=stupid.gif]
I would cry.
An then curse! [:@]
And then have to replace a lot of plastic. [sm=tired.gif]

I'm skeerd!

SORRY! It is a very cheap camera and the focus does not work well. [:'(] When my wife gets home, I will make her take a few pictures with her phone.

There was a web site that had a home built smoke generator in it. The author used some brass to fabricate a box, and then added a smoke generator (I think from a ship) and a small computer fan to blow the smoke out. He attached the fan to the motors so that the fan would blow harder at above idle, hence more smoke coming out of the tubes. He is in the process of rebuilding his web site right now, so the links to the project are not available. His site address is: http://www.tanksandtrolls.co.uk/home.htm. I got that info from the site that we are not allowed to post links to. If you email me I'll give you the form address so you can get the other info from the post.

i have and idea !

for what i can tel about the HL smoke gén, it's nothing than a litle wire heating a lot and burning the liquid oil in a coton environement..
( i do not think it's coton, though, cause coton would burn and set fire ) the fragility of the thing come from the tiny wire who broke, place themselve
in the rong way, etc....
about the use of a spark plug used in nitro cars ? they glow, and don't use lots of battery, rigth ?
?

How about a smoke unit from a model train?

I've never looked at any train websites in years but you used to be able to buy nice smokers for model steam locos. If they fit inside a tiny HO train they'll fit in a 1/16th tank.

And from memory they smoke quite a bit.

djdezre - I just read a post in the German Forum (you should know the one I am referring to by now). The guy modified the HL unit to make it smoke better. He cut off the motor assembly, cut off the piston pump assembly, drilled a 9mm hole in the upper part of the smoke unit (remaining cube with the smoke unit inside) and then added a 25mmX25mm fan onto it. According to his post the unit smokes great now. I would think that if you wired the fan to the motors (assuming that the esc could handle the extra load) you could get it to blow smoke like the link I posted above. If you need direct links and pics email me and I'll send them too you.
