There is a spring inside the turett that holds the gun "up" against a cam, driven by that motor.
Bet that the spring has moved out of alignement. An easy fix, just open-up the tank [:@]...

Turbo is correct, its probably the spring. Gotta open her up and reposition it. Did you get it from Mato Toys? He will not give you the run around, Murphy provides excellent customer service.
First you have to push a pin out of each sides track to get them off. Then remove 1 screw from the underside of the front hull and two from the rear. Then get a small screwdriver and remove the first two screws on each underside of the sponsons. Slip the screwdriver between the roadwheels. Disconnect the air hoses on the rear deck and gently lift the upper hull off. Disconnect the antenna wire and the connector for the harness. Then you'll remove the 3 screws from the bottom of the turret gear, now the turret will separate from the hull. Then take out all the screws on the bottom of the turret. Be careful with the wiring, it can break easily! Have a soldering iron handy in the even this happens. The spring should be wobbling around in there somewhere. There are tabs to keep it in place both on top of the airsoft unit and the ceiling of the turret.

since you will open your tank ,
may i suggest adding a switch for the lights and seal your gearbox.
2 liter soft-drink bottle plastics stripes .
just heat it to form it and puncture holes for screws .

I wouldn't send the tank back over an out of position spring. That's a waste of $$ IMO. The other tank in question is probably a Tamiya and those cost ten times what you paid for the HL

Booty,
if you upgrade a HL tank to a Tamiya level, it will cost more than just buy a tamiya one.
i guarantee you that tamiya tank offer 10 times more satisfication than HL.
it is like HD tv, only the one with good eyes will appreciate its quality. of course, you have to be able to afford it. nobody will pay it for yuo.
good luck, tom

Booty - do not listen to the couple of guys here who regret having spent so much on something that can be obtained much cheaper. They will tell you that though it cost 10 times the amount of your tank, you will get 10 times the enjoyment. That is a load of crap. I'm not even sure how they arrive at 10 times the enjoyment, but I can assure you that isn't the case. I'm trying to figure out what could make my own tank give me twice the enjoyment. Minus the commander speaking in German or something similar at a push of a button, I'm hard pressed to come up with anything else. The recoil effect is nice but Tamiya's don't smoke or shoot bbs like the HL you have, which in their own way, offers a certain cool factor as well. I have many different RC models in many different fields. I have several Tamiya cars and they are well built to be sure. The Tamiya tanks are very overpriced and that is the plain hard truth. You may have been unfortunate to get a bad unit but give the advice others here have offered a chance, before shipping it back. If you think it is something beyond what they say, it may be better to ship it back since working on it may void the warranty in some way.

who rattled your cage? We weren't giving the new guy a hard time. Have you ever gotten together with other tankers and had a taste of playing rc tank combat games with the infra red battle system? I bet not!

Hey man - I have a great idea - why don't you go and blow hard somewhere else. The thread said newbie having problems with a a H/L. So, by default based on your hatred of the product, you and your buddy come in here and chime in on the guy to just get a Tamiya. You and your buddy don't actually try to help him - no rather you tell him how he would get 10 times the enjoyment if he hadn't bought a HL. This is not constructive. In fact, the whole attitude is quite boring. I'd say you two have been flaming and inciting anger repeatedly. I think it would be better if you just stayed on threads where you have expertise or an actual desire to be helpful. To this end you should avoid these particular threads altogether as you have nothing of meaning to add. Apparently quite a few share this opinion and are really rather tired of it all or do you not read the posts!

Hi
While I agree the spring is the most likely candidate it would be worth doing a little test first. Does the gun move freely up and down if you push it gently with your finger? If so apply light pressure under the gun barrel at the end with a finger while you push the stick on the controller. This has the same effect of the pressure the spring does. If it is the spring out of its socket you will feel the gun move as it should - please just use gentle presure and don't force against this as you will damage it. If the gun does nothing it might actually be the motor or wires to it. It might sound like the motor is running but in my ones I found that the sound chip makes a noise to simulate the real thing. If this is the case it is either start pulling it apart to fix yourself if you feel confident or send it back for a replacement or refund. If the supplier will refund your return postage I would personally go with this and get another. If he won't then I would fix it myself.
I hope this helps

have you had a tamiya tank? have you compared both side by side? have compare the suspension, sound system, road wheels, overal details?
I did, so i stated the fact, what is wrong with that? are you trying to refuse the fact you never be able to see?
what is constructive is to tell new people what they are going to expect before they even buy it. I do not they quit because first sour apple.

You are a disruptive force on this site in my opinion. Though you have enthusiasm for the hobby and have modeling skills, a great deal of your time here is spent degrading with the same old boring rants over and bloody over again. I did not insult you - I merely asked if someone named Heng Long either stole your wife or killed your dog. I think its quite funny actually and if that was grounds for having it erased well, perhaps many of your posts should be erased due to the harrassment like nature of almost ALL of them.
I can't even log on and try to enjoy a few posts without coming across one of your broken record posts - enough already. Stay out of the HL specific threads if you have nothing of value to offer. We get it - you love Tamiya - I actually love Tamiya - but enough already - name a future new born Tamiya or change your middle name to Tamiya, but leave these guys with their HL issues alone.

Here Here. I agree with Temp 100%. Tom, while I agree that you have skills in the production part of models, you contribute very little to the promotion of the hobby, instead using your time to make people feel dumb, or even worse, too poor to afford a Tamiya. It apears the tide is turning on you, perhaps it's best to set yourself back to sea...

To promote this tank hobby, the first of all is to let the new people know what is in the market and difference between. Of course everybody will notice the difference of the price. like every hobby, it is about money. you can not get the best stuff if you do not have money. My advice is for those people who has the money and new to this hobby, so they will know the difference and shop wisely.
if you do not have money or do not want to spend that much money, buy a cheap one and have fun. you know you do not have the quality stuff. How many thread here stated people have problem with HL? and how many with tamiya? why can not I use the live example to tell new people that they should consider before spending the money. why do you keep telling new people HL is a good tank (actually it is not)? only because you have you yourself?
On the other hand, i will have no problem if you tell new people the price difference. it is not samething like OEM battery, they are marketed with different label even they are same quality, sanyo sell them more expensive because of their brand power, radio shack sell for less. that is called over pricing.
somepeople here keep telling new people that you get same thing at 10% of the tamiya price. it is not true, there is huge quality difference.
other people do not make feel dumb, only you make yourself feel dumb. state the reason why you did not make dumb decision by buying hl, so people will know you made a sound decision.
for those who bought HL tanks, have fun if yours is not broken, spend more money to fix if it does or you want to upgrade it. Why do you take my advice to new people as the insult to yourself?
Thank you for the compliments to my tank building though.
this is about advice to people who is new, not about those who bought HL already.

Cheers on that one. We will be here (the HL fans). If you should ever have further problems or have upgrade questions about your HL, please feel free to ask any of us here and we'll be happy to oblige. We like to discuss the many possibilities of these low cost tanks and we certainly won't deride you or make you feel like you made a bad decision buying it.
The HL's are getting better in the quality department so I think we'll be seeing more good stuff on the horizon.
Keep us posted on the progress (good or bad) with your tank repair/diagnosis.

To answer your question Tom, I have bought 3 HL tanks, none of which has had any problems yet. I have 2 tamiya's now, (older 1/16 porche KT and a Full Functon tiger one) and as far as 500 dollers extra townards a tamiya goes, I DO NOT get my moneys worth of proformence over a Heng Long. While I agree that a Tamiya is a better built model, I do not agree that it commands that kind of mark up in price... To me its a just a rip of.

glad that you think tamiya is a better built tank, sorry that is rip of to you. you are extremly lucky because none of your HL broke down.
as for the performance, i do not know how you tested your tanks, if you really want to compare the performance, please visit Virginia indoor battle field, you will tell the difference.
plus, rc tank hobby is not only about driving this thing, education is part of the fun too. mechanically, you will learn how the torsion bar work and structure of a tank. historically, the true details and true scale demension give you better idea of wwii legend. true light and sound effect give you true felling of the wwwii battle field.
and be fair, why can not tamiya make money while they paid lot of money and effort to do the research? HL just copied tamiya's and they had no overhead for reseach. if we keep encouraging such manufacture, there would be no good model any more.
good luck, tom
