Now that that's out of the way, do I think Tamiya has silly pricing? Yes. Will I buy HL because of it? Not likely. I know how to shop, so I can always pick up a used tank in beautiful condition cheap or a fresh built tank. I save $$ because I'm not obsessed with the building. I get my kicks modding, which will result in a teardown and buildup anyway. So you see, I win all around
Tamiyas are just so damn sweet!
I tell you what! If that new tank is an Abrams, I will just have to bite the bullet and pay for a new kit. I don't realy care for a Panther. A T34 would be sweet. But what I really want is an M60A3. I will keep it on the nightstand. A Challenger 2 would really be sweet, too.

At the moment I have only Ti. I haven't built it completely yet, too much job.
I am planning to have all Tamiya line + some conversions, except for LEO. No modern armour for me.

Flakpanzer Gepard, FO King Tiger, Leo 2A6, Working on a Panther Conversion/scratch using Tamiya FO parts also HL Sturmpanzer conversion but it does use Tamiya wheels and gun elevation
also have a WSN T34 plan on using Tamiya FO parts on
Thats the credentials out the way i would like an M1 and the Panther if Big T is going to make them probably get 2 panthers and convert one to a Jagdpanther also a Chally 2 would be nice if not i will have to scratch build one using Leo running gear and FO parts should keep me busy for a while
Cheers Ian

My tanks are in my models. They're in various state of rebuild with upgraded parts. The best part of Tamiya I feel
is the build and the detailed components. That's why I'm big on upgrades even at prohibitive costs. I just like having
something where I know the material and workmanship is the best I can give it.

Chimming in from the Sooner State:
I am new to all of this and went nuts...I have the following:
Tiger 1
Leopard 2a6
M26
All FO of course, none built. Waiting on it to cool down a bit and to finish my workshop in the backyard. I'd really really like a Sherman.

I do have almost enough parts for a 2nd King Tiger. I just need the aupper + lower hulls, turret, DMD, trannies, main gun, and FO motor units.
You're killing me, Supreme Reign. I don't own a KT, but it seems to me that you are missing just about the whole tank!

I don't believe Heng Long is stifling future Tamiya model issues. HL must be viewed as entry-level at this time and aside from that, they will never actually challenge Tamiya because they are not kits. Certainly they can be disassembled and reworked as a quasi-kit but there will always be a fascination with kit building and this is where T really really comes into its own.
I think the Tamiya tank line is pretty stagnant but they do release new tanks (just not very often).
I would like to see more modern tank releases to compliment the Leopard (i.e., adversaries or allies). I'd like to see an Abrams and an adversarial Russian tank, preferably T-54, T-55, T-62, T-72, T-80 or a variant thereof. Full function and DMD. A lot of modern battles can be re-enacted notably Gulf War or practically any Israeli-Arab conflict. I think latter 20th century battles are largely ignored.
Two (2) full-function M4 Sherman "bookends".

To save arguments can Tamiya owners only please post here.
What does the future hold for us 1/16th Tamiya enthuisiasts? Is Heng Long really stifling future Tamiya model issues? Are we going to be left with only new henglong models to choose from, like the Pan-Tiger, the Per-Dog and most probably a Tig-Zer and the like?
Your thoughts and comments, along with your Tamiya 'credentials' appreciated. Mine are in ,My signature.

I'm serious. I have the complete suspensionn assembly(wheels, idler, spockets, tracks, torsion bars and stays, track tensioner, etc) electronics plate, and MF-O1 multifuntion unit. As for the upper and lower hulls, I have to buy the Jadgtiger ones, as it is a longer chassis. This was supposed to be a custom vehicle(not WWII). Then I kept seeing conversion kits for Jagdtigers
Just when I had enuff money for some parts, the chance for the Leo popped up[>:] What was I to do?

Oh, I see you edited in your Tamiya credentials, phew! Over 20 Tamiya owners have joined in this thread now, that's great to see. It's our thread, so let's keep it 'Tamiya', when only the best will do!

Jason, is it true you are now the official defender of 'those' tanks, say it ain't so. We don't want to have to drum you off this thread.

I guess that since I own both brands, I feel compelled to give my honest, unbiased view of both. If you remember, my original opinion of HL tanks was pretty low....I smashed the "Snow Leopard" with a hammer and lit my original Tiger on fire for goodness sake! However, my judgement of the Super Version of the Tiger 1 is much more positive (as you very well know
). I still acknowledge the differences in quality, but I also see the need for both levels of the hobby.Unless I am mistaken, you yourself have admitted to such an interest in the M41, that you ordered a Hen Long! [sm=lol.gif] If I am under the gun, it is my thought that your own position on this thread must also be in question.

You instigator, you.

Just got my HenLong Walker Bulldog. It's nice that we have another 1/16 offering on the table. Would I trade my Tamiya Tiger 1 for ten of these? NO. My Tiger 1 with the work I put into it makes me believe it's the real thing. In comparison, the Walker Bulldog is a toy, and there ain't nothn' wrong with that!! The sound is the deal breaker for me!![:@][:@]

Sownare, I'm one of the lucky ones who got one that works too. But naaah, I gave mine to my son to mess with, a 1/14th scale tank don't fit in with my 1/16th stuff.

There's a few complaints about us being allowed to have fun on our on thread[:@], what do you guys think, should we give up this thread, or keep it going?

TANKDUEL, that's a good question. Looking back at the postings on this forum, all the posts are sincere and intelligent. Nothing hateful has been said about people or brands. For this reason, KEEP IT GOING!!![8D] There's no reason someone should be offended or threatened. This thread is open for everyone to read and participate. So far, this thread is not a secret corner where Tamiya fans gather to bash, well . . . you know . . .
