Default building a halftrack.

hey, do you know where i can get some plans for building a halftrack? i have like servos and a radio but no motor or esc. i saw someone built one out of balsa wood so that's what i plan on making it out of. if anyone could help me out i would really appreciate it. the hard part for me is figuring out where the electronics should be mounted and how the steering would work.

Check this out:

I don't know anything about it, but I bet you could find some good information if you can get in touch with the creator. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Good Luck!

Hi Kuhndog599,

The wooden half track was built by me (See my earlier post last week).........it is a combination of balsa wood, plywood and the wheels & steering mechanism from a model car and the tracks and drive sprockets from an Abrahms 1/35th tank model.........she is scaled up from a plastic model half track of the M41......I purchased two small gearboxes from a hobby shop and linked these to a single speed controller, using rubber tube between the drive shafts to provide some differential........the main steering is via the front wheels..........working with wood is really easy and I found it quite satisfying as an experiment really.......got my sights set on maybe a Buffalo built in a similar way..........more news on that later...........

Good luck and tally ho.......

PMMS states that Trumpeter will release one in 1/16 scale.

Hi old chap............Sorry to hear that you don't have a hobby shop local.......that will make things awkward for you...........the reason I built mine in the way I did was because there was no plans available that I knew of so it was very much a 'prototype' build and developed as I went..................Post your progress as you go and if I can help, I will.............

cheers

Check out the DAK site for info on the T-34. Ethan kit bashed a WSN T-34 and a Tumpeter Static kit to get the look he wanted. He then converted it with Tamiya electronics and TBU. My understanding is that WSN is Trumpeter's RC division. The detail on the RC kit is toned down from the static ones.

My understanding is that the info on the 1/2 track is very sketchy at this point. I've go a 21st Century 1:18 scale 1/2 track I was going to convert, but if this is coming soon, I can wait.

The Trumpeter T34 is a good model and a great STARTING PLACE for a R/C conversion but believe me it is a labor of love to assemble. So much so I have begun assembling the pieces to do another version. I love punishment.

The WSN toy is a good STARTING POINT for a good T34 model but it needs work in the R\C as well as detail areas. Everything needs to be beefed up and I am lucky to have gotten this far with the exising gearboxes.

It will cost $800 dollars to get it working with real gearboxes and Tamiya electronics. My 76 mm turret conversion required scratchbuilding a recoil mechanism that fits in a much smaller space than the 85mm turret. You could cheat and have no recoil but I wanted to go farther.

I recommend this build as an excercise in the R/C tank hobby and I enjoy having a fairly unique tank on the battlefield.

By the way, the build is on my site at www.desertarmor.com

Thanks Kevin O, I appreciate the pimping of my site at all times.

The T34 is an excellent model, with good quality plastic and lots of nice detail.......unfortunately, the electronics in it are poor so I converted mine to HL control with S & S and BB firing........a great project, a little fiddly in places but worth doing IMHO..........Good luck
