Default tamiya King Tiger

I just ordered a new King Tiger from Tamiya, this will be my first attempt at Tanks. Along with the Tank I ordered the Futaba 4 vwd 4 channel am/2 s3003 servos 27mhz. Is this a good combo? also, how hard are they to build,. I am not very good when it comes to electrons, am I going to have a tough time setting this up.

I built my Tiger after being away from modelling for 20 years. When you first see all the parts, it's very intimidating. There has to be a zillion of them.

But by following the instructions, it's pretty straightforward. Read them twice before you proceed with a specific step to make sure you understand.

The electronics are plug and play but I did have to reverse one connection. The instructions were wrong. But that was 5 years ago so they probably corrected that by now.

As far as painting it, you will have to do that as you go along as you won't be able to paint it once it's fully assembled.

You can't go wrong with Futaba.

Hope that helps.

Good choice with the radio, even though you won't need the servos. Like SSCOR said, when you open the box, you think "GOOD GOD, WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN INTO"! But when you go step by step, it's pretty straightforward, plus you got lots of room if you want to make little modifications.

Hi,

I built this tank a few years ago and have since built the Leopard 2 (for a model mag).

In both cases they do look intimidating, but the hardest part is just screwing on that first nut or clipping that first piece of plastic off the sprue.

The KT was much easier to build. I found the lighting system (the headlights) infuriating on the Leo.

I think the KT you're getting should have a nice one-piece turned metal barrel. The kit was recently revised.

This is so much easier than gluing two barrel halves together in the old version!

If you're into detail then there's at least one firm (forgotten name off top of my head) that does aftermnarket upgrades such as engine deck mesh screens etc.

Good luck with your project.

Mike
