RE: What name?
When production began the M41 was nicknamed "Little Bulldog", which was a departure from the Army practice of naming American Tanks after famous generals. This nickname, however, was later amended to "Walker Bulldog" in honor of General Walton Walker, the commander of U.S. Forces in Korea who had been killed in a jeep accident during early 1951.

RE: What name?
Not a stupid question at all. It is very common for tanks and other vehicles to have "nose art" and/or nicknames. I'm contemplating a name for my tank as well and am glad you brought up the subject.
Knowing that many vehicle nicknames used during WWII were based on popular culture or used subject matter based on current events ("Hitler's Hearse" or "Berlin Bound"), then it would be easy to name a tank from that era. For the Bulldog which came later, perhaps some research into 60's terminology/slang would be in order...
WWII examples:
HEAVY HITTER
STRIKE ONE
PIECE OF CAKE
BIG BOY
CRAPS
CRAPGAME
OLD BALDY
SNAFU KID
ODDBALL
BETTY GRABLE
TWO BITS
HOME RUN
BUGS BUNNY
PORKY PIG
BERLIN BOUND
Kind of gives you an idea of what GI's were mindful of in the 40's.
