This may sound dumb but does the Sherman have any servos in it or is it all controlled by the control units? I am about to get a full option kit I want to make sure I order all the stuff I need. By the way...I am pumped!

No servos or radio battery, the Rx just plugs in and runs of the 7.2V pack...... Go with a 4 channel radio. it can work with a 2, but you will be flipping trim tabs back and forth just to run it. On the 4 channel unit, one stick handles the throttle and turret rotation. The other steering and gun elevation.

Are you planning to battle with it, or just run it for fun? Our battlefield may be a bit of a drive, but one of our members makes the drive up from San Deigo for almost every battle. I drive from Dana Point.

Yea, I plan to battle when I can. I also intend to use a DX6 so the frequency thing won't be a problem. When is the next get together? I would like to come out and take a peek if I can.

DX6 - GREAT! Make sure you get the BR6000 Rx. The AR6000 cuts the throttle for airplanes in case of signal loss..... which in full reverse in a tank! If you order online, you should be able to get them to swap it out N/C.... Check out the DAK site for more Spektrum notes

These are our friends from Arizonia who must spend too much time in the sun, because they keep on driving out for our tank batlles

We might be driving out to DAK in April for a battle, depends on the weather. Otherwise, we just had a battle 2 weeks ago, and we tend to run them about 2 months apart. We will post on this site and on the club website when we have a date.

Hey Kevin, I finished my King Tiger and am anxious to battle.

2 months apart, that's killing me ;-)

What is the minimum amount of people you guys need to decide to go ahead with a battle day?
Does SCAT have an email list?
Maybe a query for a date sooner?
I'm just thinking it might be better to battle more in Spring before Summer melts us.

Oh well, guess I'll just run around on my own in Pasadena until the next battle.

I'm sure you know this, but to make your Sherman a very reliable battler put some aftermarket motors in it and get rid of the stock ones. They are way too fast and very hard to drive plus, a couple of hits on the tank and it's a moving pillbox ... very slow with the words SHOOT HERE written all over it.

OK another dumb question I can't seen to find the answere to, I know the Sherman doesn't have a recoil unit in the turret for the barrel but does the tank "rock" back after a shot? It would be nice if the RC tank makers would dig into how the tank really moved, then design the tank to run accordingly. Looking at the DVDs on Utube, it's ridiculous to watch a Sherman spin and pivot, do a 90 degree turn in a tank's length and take off like a race car. The Sherman had a 5 speed totally unsyncronised crash box tranny and it took a very experienced driver to move it from 2nd to 4th smoothly without loosing too much momentum. It was double clutch up and down for every gear and not at all smooth, was not capable of pivots and could not stop and take off in reverse in a split second. It took a lot of muscle to jack that lateral back and shift down at the same time to make a tight turn. Lots of things are being done to make tanks look realistic, but realistic movement has not been taken seriously. The same applies to the Pershing and all German armor regarding speed and maneuverability. The Tiger family had electrically controlled automatic transmissions with a selector lever to allow the same number of gears forward and reverse and I have seen a KT almost do a pivot with one track moving slowly oposit of the other..., but very slow. The HL M-41 can be taken somewhat seriously due to the Allison CD transmission. It was very fast, extremely maneuverable and could stop and pivot on a dime.

You're right Bill, but it would make the tank even more expensive replicating exactly how the tank operated.

Replacing the stock motors and adding weight to the tank will help with the realism even more.

Hi Jeff,
I just got two sets of low speed motors for my non S&S Tiger and Pershing to help with this problem. Once I get some help on working with these electronic things, I'll start doing my own modifications. In my museum, I run them all slow and try to make them look like the real ones. Nothing I can do about turret traverse speed....the Tiger was very slow, even with power traverse. The driver and TC had to coordinate and place the main gun in pretty much the right direction for the gunner to gain speed in engagement. I did the same in Korea. On the models, they are generally too fast to be realistic. Maybe I'm too museum or authenticity minded, but having worked with 1;1 scale and have dealth with the speeds, it's sometimes hard to replicate it with a HL tank. Just got my Super Pershing about 95% done and now have to find a way to make it sit a bit lower in front to replicate the weight from the long gun and added armor. I guarentee it will move slow.
