IR system update & other run stuff

I took my tanks with the IR out into the backyard and sunlight for the first time to see what kind of range I had. Lets just say it was like sword fighting out there.
MY home made IR system sucks in the sunlight. I guess I'll go commercial.
Had the Tiger, Pershing,T-34/Heng Long and the 21 st Century Stug/henglong running around. For the first time ever my Tiger held it all together and made a 45 minute run without having a problem. Usually I have track or wheel problems, but I must have all bugs worked out.
T-34 Ok, but even with the metal gears I get some gear hopping in the taller stuff.
Stug. This sucker is a beauty. I thought it would run like crap, but boy have I been surprised. The HL board with the 21 Century motors work well together. With a 7.2 V 2000 mA battery it has a good hour of run time. Only threw the tracks when I did a power turn in tall grass.
Pershing surprise. Broken metal tracks. I thought this system was bullet proof, but I found two broken end pieces.
Mato mailed my Panzer III so hopefully this weekend I'll have that to run around.
So now I have to find a commercial IR system to run.

Did you try any tinted plex or louvers to shield the IR Rx? Would be cool to see some shots. If you look at the MOTOR POOL on our site, you can see the 'Home Made' IR system that Merle built for his HL Tiger. He started with the TANKHOBBY battle circuit. He has also crammed it into a 21st Century PAKWAGEN.

Yes I will try some shielding today. I made up parabolic mirror hoods to go over a couple. I'll try using them to see if it improves the sensor.
