Default Wittmann S04 Tiger progress

Well, I'm on my third Tamiya tank now. Here's my idea of the Tiger 1 as driven by Michael Wittmann right before it gets whitewashed for Winter. I have the turret track hangers in the mail so they will go on later. I had to have custom decals made up since no one seems to make them. Thought I'd share these pics before I potentially ruin this model. I've never done a whitewash before. Wish me luck.

Great job [sm=thumbup.gif] I love the weathering on the tracks is that paint or pastels/weathering powder?

Cheers Ian

Looks good so far and I am sure the whitewash will turn out OK. It was never perfect on the real thing anyway.

One point though, not criticising, Wittmans Tiger was a three tone camo one. It should have green and brown lines over the yellow before whitewashing.

Cheers

Good Luck ! [sm=thumbup.gif] Nice to see another Tiger of Michael Wittmann !

Greetings

P.S.:
Just for info: Wittmann had the S21 before he got - in winter - the S04 - so during the S04 had no winter paint, Wittmann drove the S21 ...

S04 in winter in Russia when Wittmann got it - photo taken when he got the "Ritterkreuz"

The rust is real, it's a rust antique kit you can get at any crafts store for $15. You paint on a coat that contains particles of iron, then you apply a rusting solution. I'm surprised no one else seems to use real rust on their tanks.

Wish I read these replies earlier. The Tiger already has the 1st coat of white, so it's too late to add the other camo colors. Oh well, I'll post pics when I finish it and we'll see how people feel about it. Guess this tank won't be historically accurate, but since I already have a Summer KT, I'm still going to winterize this Tiger. It will be an alternate universerse Wittmann Tiger.

Thanks for the input, Tak

If you read the books about wittmans career it explains that the kill rings in the winter pic were added with tape for propaganda purposes. Yes he did have that many kills but it would not help the health of the tank in combat to have that pattern permanently on the barrel.
The photo was taken when he was getting awarded with one of his many versions of the "cross" that he earned.

Well it's done. Since this is no longer a real replica of S04 (read above) I decided to brush on the whitewash. These pics don't really show the rust details well but in person it looks much better. Can't wait for the next local SCAT battle. I've attached pics of the fleet. Both Tigers have smokers installed but I couldn't fit one in the Sherman. I think this is all I'll do for now. I don't like the other Tamiya models. I wish Tamiya did a Russian tank next. Thanks for all the info above!
