Default Need a source for SAFE ball bearings!!!

Where can I order ball bearings for my Tamiya Sherman & Pershing road wheels that have plastic SAFE GREASE! I've just found out the hard way with my Pershing wheels cause the plastic wheel housings have started to crumble and the bearings were only installed about five weeks ago. I thought I had ball bearings with plastic safe grease but obviously didn't.

What store on the web has ball bearings with PLASTIC SAFE GREASE!! Thanks!! Mike

(As you can tell, I'm NOT IN A HAPPY MOOD RIGHT NOW after finding my road wheel hubs falling apart!!)

I am going to soak the bearings I receive in degreaser and then use Model RR Label grease to lube them up again. I used this on plastic MRR engines for years with no bad effects. Hopefully this will prevent the bad things from happening!!!!

Old MSgt

Do you remember where you got your bearings from? It would be nice info to have on here so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

I bought some from Stellamodels in HK, I hope that's not the same ones, I looked over my Sherman after reading your post and don't see any problems, they have been in there a little longer than yours but not by much.

I'll give that a try YHR, but the rubber seals on all these bearings might hinder that. I'll try it.

And THANKS Panther F!!!! I'll contact'em and order what I need.

I just put this Tamiya Pershing together about five weeks ago and used these bearings. I only ran it MAYBE fifty yards then 'parked' it. (I have four Shermans and I found out I like them better.) Today I 'weathered' the Pershing and since it looked so good, I put batteries in it and took it out for a spin. I suddenly noticed the wobbily play in the wheels! Took a couple of them apart and the plastic shoulders in the hubs fell apart! So now I have to order new bearings for the wheels AND suspension arms (HOPEFULLY the HULL isn't falling apart too!!) And I have extra of these bearings I WAS going to put in my Shermans!

I've held off for months waiting to put bearings in my Shermans until I could get new road wheels for'em. It's been frustrating when I have eleven Tamiya R/C tanks that need parts but Tamiya has been out of spare parts.

When I have paid hundreds of dollars for a product; be it a lawn mower, television, computer, car, etc., I would really appreciate it if the manufacturer would stock repair/replacement parts so I could fix anything that happens with their product that may happen. Especially when I have THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS invested and over 15 years involved in owning their product. I am becoming VERY disappointed with Tamiya.

Naw hdbeast, I ordered all of'em from Dan's Crafts. They have a big selection of R/C bearings for 99 cents each so I loaded up. Figured if it was listed FOR R/C models that they'd work. Boy, was I wrong. So now I have to order new road wheels (and maybe a lower hull!) and new bearings.

If you don't have OBVIOUS wheel wobble by now you probably got good-grease bearings.

Here I've been running Tamiya tanks all these years and just within the last six months I started reading the forums on R/C tanks. Should have started reading'em sooner so I would have known about 'plastic safe grease'. Seems like when I was HAPPILY IGNORANT I didn't have any problems.

I get mine from [link=http://stores.ebay.com/WalawalaStore]here[/link]

They are plastic safe and they sell bearing sets for specific tank sets.

Btw in this [link=http://stores.ebay.com/WalawalaStore/Balls-and-Bearings-Lubrication.html]link[/link] they do saythey are plastic safe, anyway another member form my club have been usingthem for 4 years and have not come into any issues with the bearings being plastic safe or not

I have the same metal shielded bearings from Stella in my Sherman and unless they advertise plastic safe grease, it's not. I just did what YHR did and cleaned mine in rubbing alcohol and then oiled them with the safe oil/grease. Only you can decide which way to go and what environment they will run in.

RC Boyz does advertise plastic safe grease and that's what I have in my Pershing road wheels. I didn't bother with the torsion bars.
