EI MOD Battle system

I was just looking at the EI MOD website and I see they have built an IR battle system to go with their extensive electronics upgrades for Heng Long.
Seems as if they have improved on the game a little. Apparently four sensors means they have programmed in different hit damage depending on where the tank gets hit. You can lose left ot right control of tracks or turret rotation. System also has provision for the holy grail shot that can take a tank out in one hit. Interesting concepts as they try to take IR battling to a new level.
69 euroes is not bad for the system and "mushroom" Of course you have to invest in the other EI MOD electronics as this works as an add on board.
The frequency is the same as Tamiya so they are compatitble in the fact each system can register hits.

Yes, My SUPER TIGER Build is going to have all EL MOD, ESC board no Heng Long electronics 2.4 gig radio specktrum, not only the proportional drive but the compensating magnestic transmission that they have, sound and of course IR Battle Unit ( The C.S.I. ) They have already tested it with Tamiya tanks at a B.T.N. (Battle Tanks Netherlands) event. I will be showing it, and battleing it in Phoenix on December 29th! Oh and eventually I will have the EL Mod Afterburner, but the new motors won't be in on time!

Hey Pzjgr,
Alright, I look forward to seeing your Panther as well, that build sure has been a bone of contention on the forum!
I like having the Battle Days to use as deadlines to get my builds done, or I may have kept putting it off or go off on another idea!

Hi guys,
I have ordered the complete upgrade to my El-mod sys tem and plan to reinstall in my elephant conversion (former old school Tamiya King Tiger with dual drive sprockets)
I'll keep you all posted as to the results.
Regards,
bullyhys

I've just completed a Hen Long Panzer III with ElMod Electronics and battle system. I must say the system is REALLY good. Uses the same IR frequency as Tamiya but is much more configurable. You can also play around with the sound effects or even use your own.
I don't know if any other ElMod owners have tried this but I found that by leaving a slight gap (1-2mm) between the top and bottom of the commanders cupola, I could hide the ElMod 'apple' inside and still register hits without any apparent reduction in range compared to my Tamiya TBUs. I suppose it might have something to do with the ElMod 'apple' having 4 sensors arranged facing four ways. I'm trying to modify my Tamiya 'apples' now by adding extra sensors so I can hide them as well.

How could you? [:@]
How could you post such an incredible tank without a build up on RCU? Shame on you!
Just kidding! The tank looks great and we'd love to see how you did it, internals, paint choices, weathering, etc. Really nice job! [sm=thumbup.gif]

Nice tank. Th EI MOD stuff triples the price of a Heng Long, but the result is a very convincing model. I agree with Swathdiver, a few more pictures of your work showing the internal arrangement etc. would be very welcome. THe Darkith system sensor has a very low profile as well. Orignally I tried to copy the look of the Tamiya "apple", however I think on the next conversion I am going for the "hidden in the cupola" look.

grompix, give up the Pix! What did you use for the cannon recoil the Tamiya unit>? Can you show us inside and it would be cool to see it taking hits as well, can you see the Leds flashing under normal light through the cupola?
Nice tank, very cool!

Thanks chaps, I appreciate your feedback.
Here's some extra pix I took yesterday with some info
…and another video link.

The ElMod ‘ThinkTank’ system can be used with the original HL or WSN radio modules or standard RC equipment (which is the option I chose). If anyone is interested I heartily recommend downloading the datasheet manuals from their website.

The HenLong Panzer III is a small model and as you can see from the photographs it was quite a squeeze to fit everything inside. Sorta reminded me of shoe-horning stuff in the Tamiya Pershing. The Elmod 'ThinkTank' units are quite small though and they can be tucked away in corners and underneath things. Something that can't be done quite so easily with the bigger Tamiya blocks. You do have more cable with the Elmod units though (as each module needs to be connected to another).
As I intended to gut the PzIII right from the beginning I did not bother with getting a 'smoker'. The only things I kept were the gearboxes, lights, on/of switch, turret-turn and gun elevation units. Even though the gearboxes are the HL plastic ones they seem sturdy enough and run very quietly with the Permax long-can motors. I might replace them with metal ones eventually if they start showing any signs of giving out.
I cut out the battery compartment completely and glued the compartment lid in place to strengthen the floor. I also needed to create more room inside by cutting out some of the moulded screw posts holding the hull top and bottom together (you can see this in the close-up pic of the hull underside). I didn't use the screws anyway as I made the hull top just drop in place held with a couple of metal rods glued into the holes where the original screws were. Makes it much easier to swap batteries.
I replaced the airsoft barrel with a Schumo PzIII aluminium one and cut away the airsoft unit, keeping just enough to act as a fixing point for the Tamiya recoil. I was in two minds whether to use the original HL gun elevation unit or make my own (as the HL elevation unit is quite big). In the end I decided to keep it. It’s a bit tight in the turret (especially with the Tamiya recoil unit and Elmod 'mushroom' in there too) but it did all go in with a judicious bit of 'persuasion'.
The tracks, sprockets and idlers are made by ‘Impact’ and really make the model IMO. I removed the HL aerial from the back of the tank and refitted it in its proper place on the right hand side.
And that's about it (in a nutshell).
Anyway here's some pix (If I can figure out how to get them to attach to this post!)...

Thanks grompix, nice work! Can you see the leds if they are lit or not, fro competition may have to drill holls so the petrude through the cupola but it still would be better than the huge mushroom!
Hey bullyhys,
I can't wait to see that Elephant, and I am surprise you didn't chime in on the thread about the Elephant? The guys might want to know how you did yours, and give them some hope!

Hi Blitz,
My Rampaging Pakyderm has been on here and elsewhere on the net for months, there's even pics on the Gallery here on RC universe
.
(Check out Proving Ground on THQ or the So Cal Area Tankers site in the special projects section.)
For any newcomers that mite be reading this for the 1st time: I have converted an old clutch drive Tamiya King Tiger to a Elephant.
This was not a conversion kit, but a compleatly scratch built vehicle. Some of the features include a Quad drive setup, which means 4drive sprockets and motors.
This baby can turn with authority. I'm happy to answer any questions on this baby.
My El-Mod system with all the new upgrades will be installed in my Elephant as soon as it gets here.
Regards,
bullyhys
