Default scrap tiger well it was

Hi Guys Scrap tiger hull it has cracks everywhere so I thought why not try something this may take me a while but here goes the hull had missing lugs for suspension also cracks around the areas where the lugs had broken there are no towing lugs and also cracks in the floor of the hull lets face it its scrap so why not have a play and see what happens .Ihave decided to repair/rebuild/scratch build lets see what we can do for a small budget but lots of time.Iwill try to keep the cost to a minimum but do as much as posible so far i have spent £5 for gearboxes from FV432 which i have made into 3.5:1 ratio gearboxes will use other gears in my pnz 3 paid a total of £15 for bearings from the evil bay have enough left to do 3 more gearboxes have bought a battery 3000m/amp £12 will buy new motors speed 400 metal tracks and sprockets every thing else will come from my spares box. heres the work so far stripped the hull completely made new gearboxes which are built into the side walls changed the arms to correct postions I.e one side leading the other side trailing.it will have recoiling bb fire gun that i posted a while ago and as much metal as i can fit on it the hull and gearboxes weigh 2 1/2 llbs now and thats what i want its going to be heavy thats why it needs the low ratio high torque motors. already done some mods to the left gearbox as you can see from early photos to the last ones.next job is suspension as you can see from the photo it will be inboard torsion springs my have to mod a little but not much made them like this so i can adjust them as weight goes up.will try to make updates each week

yes there are bearings on all shafts when this thing gets going nothing is going to stop it. there wont be no flex in the hull when its done its got a heavy turret to support that weighs over 1lb might have to beef up the upper deck .

have been trying to think of a name im open to sugestions.its why i have been looking at high torque setups it will need it im hoping ive got it right speed 400 7.2volt motors and the extra reducion of 3,5:1 i think it should be about scale speed but with more torque through my gearboxes than any that can be bought .

Now that looks more the sort of tank hull finish I'm trying to achieve! Great work Pete, are you a metal basher at heart or did you get someone else to fabricate the the hull? I suppose what I'm asking is are you prepared to share the hull plans, or are you going to make them for some 'pocket money'?

Yours Simon M.

Hi Pete
It might not fly, but it could sell!
I'm in a similar circumstances. Electronics Engineer looking for opening...

So if you are thinking of costing the hull, please keep me in mind..

samarkh wait till you see what goes in the turret bb firing recoiling gun took me 3 weeks to make it work it weighs about 1lb thats why i need the low ratio gears and side wall support when i have to wait for something to come i dont stop work i start to mess thats what i did best they used to send me all over the world to fix stuff.i see you have a black belt in the dark art of being a electromagician never understud it my self if i cant see it how im i going to hit it with a hammer.

Hi Guys thanks for your input trying to make it as it should be started the suspension arms today i thought i will just copy the heng long ones but make it in metal wrong!!!! came in for a cup of tea checked on the web for dimensions and the heng long ones are almost 5mm to short ! just as well i hadnt cut them to length otherwise i would have had 16 scrap arms luckly i left them long so i could machine them to size. just goes to show dont take anything for granted. after i have done the arms its time to make the wheels just been checking what matierals ive got not quite enough aluminium so the wheels are going to be brass i still havnt made my mind up wether to do an early or mid cant do a late dont have the right dia bar for wheels so open to a vote early or mid .

Hi Rob yes ive got some plastic wheels ive got some resin castings for late model but this is going to be heavy do a bit of car crushing .i think with brass wheels the hull with metal tracks and sprockets will weigh in about 14lbs then there is the top to go on .
1 for early

Hi guys found something very interesting about the distance the hull should be from the ground at 1/16 scale it should be 1.156" or 29,37 mm see drawing i found on the net. any heng long has got to be riding low always wondered why they didnt look quite right when you compare them to a photo of a real one measure yours it should be about 6mm to low.

HDbeast yes the wheels and hull weigh 8.5lbs and thats not including arms tyres that i have to make metal tracks this why i made my own gearbox 3.5:1 extra low ratio with speed 400 motors i think it will be a bit of a toe crusher the turret weighs over a pound may have to reneforce the upper hull and still to finish it .
