Default Remote problem part 2

I have 2 HL Bulldog tanks. They worked perfect one day then about 3 weeks later went to start them again and none worked they both are on channel 3. I bent the legs on the chips and put them back and one came back to life. The other would do everything but move. The pitch of the speaker changed, but the tank would not move in any direction. Turret moved and fired. Recoil would not work as well. Is there something on the main board I should check? the only thing that happened to these tanks and controllers is they sat in my garage for about 3 weeks.

Thanks everyone, Please help,

Jack

I think you also mentioned in prior post that the antenna wires had touched? Drop in your spare board on that finicky tank and see if it keeps doing the same thing.

Try Blitz (Phil) as he sells them and IMHO would be your best option

Did you ever fit your metal tracks?

Yes. There great. They slow the tank down a little. I increased the amp hrs of the battery. Hopefully I do not cook that board also...

All that money on metal tracks and bigger battery - when insurance in the form of a cooling fan is only a few dollars...

What type of cooling fan works well? Are there some rated for 7 volts at radio shack?

Since I have a “new” tank on the way I’ve been pondering, “what if it has an RX13 board and not an RX14?” and stuff.

My original Tiger has an RX14 board and I removed the smoke unit because it died and left its power connector available for other uses. When the other tank arrives I will probably take the smoker out and fit it into the first tank. No matter, there will be a spare power connector available anyway. This type of connector is used very commonly in PCs to connect a cooling solution to the North Bridge (one of the computer chipsets that runs quite warm); it’s often a fan/ heat sink combination and would be suitable for our use on both RX13 and 14 boards.

The heat sink/ fans would be perfect for the RX13 and a fan on it’s own would be good for the RX14. The best news is that these readily available chipset coolers come (normally) with the same connector that HL uses for the dreaded smoke unit.

Anyone who has dumped the smoke unit has the perfect connection to fit a cooling solution to either board without soldering more wire inside the poor tank. It will be switched of course, so you will have to pay attention to the switch if you want the fan to run all the time. Get creative!

Dump those smokers and add some extra cooling![X(]

If you feel like it.

Where and how do you apply a heat sink. I am new to this. Do you bond it to a chip?
