Default Heng Long Hardware

Hi Guys

I have a question about Heng Long screws. I have been busy over the last month or so disassembling tanks and painting them so I can detail and weather them over the long cold winter months here, anyways on to my question.

When I take apart my tanks I usually use a #1 Phillips screwdriver but have noticed that on some tanks that I need a #2 because the #1 seems to be chewing up the heads on some of the screws? You would think that they would all be the same, Is it possible that the heads on some of the screws are slightly bigger or smaller from screw to screw?? I'm assuming that the metals they use are soft and somewhat lower quality to keep production costs down? Just weird things I have noticed after taking apart 10 tanks, lol. So was wondering what size screwdriver you guys use for the most part?

And another question while I got your guys ears, I know what size screws are used on the sprockets and what size for the Hulls but does anybody know the size thats use to hold the small plug receptacle on the tops of tanks turrets and that small little board thats attached to the turret ? There small thats all I know, lol but I guess not as small as the screw that holds the antenna wire on

Cheers guys

Jeremy

Its probably a combination of poor quality metal, and poor tolerances. Chinese manufacturers aren't known (at least in my book) for spending a lot of time or money on small parts that aren't necessarily critical. If it can be installed once, it's good enough.

Just another reason a HL doesn't cost what a Tamiya does.

I had a crossthreaded screw into one of the motors on my Panzer III, but hey, it was like $140!

Could be the screwdriver and or the quality of it as well. Try a different brand.

They seem to use whatever screw comes out of the box first.

I think you may be right about the size though Panther F, thats why I dont understand you would think that 3 screws in a turret motor would be all the same but the head on one of them wasnt as deep as the other two. Like I said earlier though thats all I have done for a month now is dissamble and spray a base coat and the put the tanks back together again. I only have 2 more tanks to do then im done and wont have to open them up as much.

Assuming they use screws at all! Half the hull screws were missing in my panzer III...[:'(]

I don't have a clue what size most of them are. When I put my tanks back together, I always end up with extra's Heck I will use anything that is even close to the orignal size, never really paying much attention to them at all!!!!!
