Another HL Jagdpanther

I took receipt of my Jagdpanther today. Heng Long keeps improving. I would say they are almost ready for retail hobby shops. I opened this tank up, and was glad to see such a clean presentation of electronics. Wire twisted into tight cables, zip straps where needed, a very well done package. I charged up the battery and gave it a test drive. Smooth, quiet, but FAST . Having said that though Everything works, with no problems. They seem to be listening to what we want. All the tools came package seperately, leaving the tank as a nice clean canvas ready for painting right out of the box. No disassembly required.
I have a couple of questions for the board
1. Do the old metal Panther tracks fit on this tank????
2. How about the metal road wheels that have been available for years?
My plan is to open up a couple of hatches, topside mount the charging jack and on-off switch.
Rework the recoil system
Install Asiatam low profile gear boxes That should slow this down to a more acceptable speed.
I have an old El-Mod Booster and TLS that I may install in this, so I can add the soundblaster. I haven't done one of these yet, and there is a lot of room in this tank.
All in all a very good effort and an affordable path to get your feet wet in this hobby, with lots of upgrade potential if you decide you want to.

I can say I agree with you to a point, the speed is faster than expected but not bad, metal tracks will slow it down but once you start upgrading
it should be fine. The metal road wheels would be a nice upgrade!

Tracks for the HL Panther won't fit (too short) but anything that fits on the Tam Panther should be OK.

I suppose I could make up the difference with plastic segments. I could have one track completely metal and then one track with a few links of plastic track? I see the metal track from Mato is upwards of $150, so maybe Tamiya metal tracks are not out of the question? I'll check out ETO and see what they cost.

the road wheels and traks dont fit as they are the old style the wheels are screwed on the new jag and the old roadwheels are press pin so the wheels need full reworking as for the tracls they use a differant spacing on the sprockets so you will need to replace sprockets and the idler with the old style drives and idler and find a way to reinstall the old idler as it is press in also

Thanks. I have a set of metal wheels on my Panther. I'll see how much work it is to make them work on the new Jagd. I was going to use the metal drive wheels that come with the metal track. I doubt there is any show stopper here, but I can do some experimenting before I actually purchase a set of old wheels and tracks from Mato. I'll post what I find out.

I've just rememberd that the metal road wheels for the HL's aren't the correct scale (they're smaller then they should be). You'd have to see if the HL Jagdpanther wheels are to the correct scale or not.

I have the gear boxes in mine that you describe and they are just right for the speed.
I used the DBC2HL battle conversion and am quite happy with it except the souund is sucky.
I had a thread on this tank a couple of weeks ago. mucho room, could live in it!
